Paul K (ru) wrote: A lovely wee indy film from Scottish Screen, set in Derbyshire and thereabouts. It takes a while to get going as it sets up the weird surreal methodology of accessing the subconscious, and has a lot of nice wacky extras - an obsession with form-filling, and almost continuous Bulgarian instrumental folk music. However it's a lot of fun and ultimately deals with confronting one's demons and letting go. Recorded off the BBC, worth a watch when it comes around next.

Carolyn G (jp) wrote: I've always thought this was an overlooked John Candy gem. Much less over the top and snarky than "Soap Dish" but just as funny.
Christian C (ag) wrote: If you know the historical touchstones from early 20th century crime fiction, this is a fantasticly funny film. Any how can you not LOVE Truman Capote?! Q: How do you stay looking so young? Answer: "A pure vegitable diet, 10 hours of sleep at night, and LOTS and LOTS of makeup."

John R (ag) wrote: 161118: The Rounders is a fantastic film in its first half losing a bit of steam into over the second. With that, I'll focus on the positive. The Rounders plays like a Disney production and if it weren't for the drinking, cursing and women jokes, I'd think it was. There are some good laughs contained within this film and it was an absolute joy to watch Henry Fonda, Glenn Ford, Ed Buchanan and Chill Wills do their work. These were artists doing art, complimented by beautiful horseflesh; if you care about that sort of thing and I do. The "...if she wasn't so fat" story had me laughing out of the gate. Today, that scene would get criticized for being insensitive and no doubt liberals would use it as an excuse to riot. Ok, I'm getting a little overboard but my point is; The Rounders harkens back to what I consider better times. Weeks after the 2016 US Presidential Election, with violence still occurring on the streets, my timing in selecting this film couldn't be better. Long live Donald Trump and I look forward to seeing what he can do. Thank God for real men and women. Thank God for the continuing production of classic westerns that reflect simpler times, an era when real men existed and were embraced.

Ashley H (nl) wrote: Flawless is a disappointing film. It is about an ultraconservative police officer who suffers a debilitating stroke and is assigned to a rehabilitative program that includes singing lessons - with the drag queen next door. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robert De Niro give some what awful performances. The script is badly written. Joel Schumacher did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture.
