Crime + Punishment in Suburbia

This is a contemporary fable loosely based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment". Roseanne is outwardly a perfect and popular teen. However, her image is hiding the abuse at her stepfather's hands, and she decides to take revenge. The events that follow are a mix of dark humor and an exploration of modern morality as Roseanne faces not only a fellow suburbanite who knows, but her own conscience as well.

Luckee C (jp) wrote: Humshakals is very weird to put simply. It starts off very well and about the first 20 minutes or so are extremely entertaining. About half an hour in you are enjoying the film and probably thinking that this is going to be one of Sajid Khan's bests. I personally thought it was quite decent. Most of you would think that this could end up being better than Housefull. But about 45 minutes in, you realize the film is actually not made for viewing pleasure. It is made for terrorizing viewers and making them go crazy. All the entertainment, all the comedy goes downhill and you forget you are watching a movie. It is more of a torture video. The worst comedy film of all time is right in front of you. Then when the first half finally ends, you hope the second half has something better in store for you, but it just gets worse. Performances are actually surprisingly decent and not bad from anyone, but terrible music (except for one or 2 songs), torturous storyline & awful, awful, awfully disturbing comedy that will leave you disturbed for a long time, is what Humshakals really has in store for you.If you have expectations for this film, don't bother watching. If you're a kid under the age of 10, you will probably enjoy this film a lot and like it, not being sarcastic. So overall, this film is actually a good film for children as they will probably enjoy it quite a lot. But for an adult, or a teenager in fact, this film is nothing but torturous. Watch it on your own risk.First Half - 2/5Second Half - 1.5/5

Mark G (nl) wrote: A group of friends (and a stripper) set out for a stag night celebration at a military base so that they can play a game of Zomball, which consists of shooting zombies with an electric gun, thereby incapacitating them for 5 minutes. Naturally it all goes wrong and the zombies escape.Initially the film started out poorly with its supposedly 'comedic' characters that were written overly moronic, but then something strange happened and I found myself tolerating them and thought that I might be watching a decent B-movie.Unfortunately my feelings were soon crushed underfoot as the film was just so badly written that you spend every 10 minutes spotting another plot hole.An example of one the plot holes that grated was why they took the stripper to the base with them. She wasn't playing Zomball, she just sat and waited for them to finish. Sure she was whipping the groom at the start of the film and they mention that they have something planned for later but why take her to the base when she's just mooching about and not relevant to what they are doing? Oh and the word 'stripper' as her job description seems really exaggerated when she never actually strips. Now don't get me wrong. I love a good B-movie and really enjoy low budget trash that most people would shy well away from but this film just didn't work. In fact, the strangest thing of all is the fact that the movie got worse when the zombies broke out...and that's not a good thing for a zombie flick. There was some rubbish spouted about how the virus affects everyone differently but that just felt like an excuse for trying to cover up the inconsistencies and of course there was the inclusion of the obligatory George Romero reference that was as subtle as a brick to the head...a news reporter, called Georgina Romero...that's how imaginative the film is. Speaking of imaginative writing, how about a dwarf called Mr. Big?So there we have it. Badly written, not worth spending time on and somehow made a zombie outbreak an even lower point of an already poor film.

Maggie H (us) wrote: Cute movie. It has a good moral to the story, and is definitely good for kids ... and good for adults who don't want to pay attention to a movie. :-)

Lee M (gb) wrote: Morita has a slightly cruder, more realistic sense of the world and its looniness than does Miyazaki, and you can see where The Cat Returns moves on a different track even as it pays homage to Japan's current animation master.

Jeff B (kr) wrote: Zeffirelli's tribute to his friend is uneven. The music is wonderful. Fanny Ardant is wonderful as Callas. But, the whole subplot with Jeremy Irons' boyfriend was boring and almost entirely unrelated to the rest of the movie. It would have been more interesting if this had been a full retrospective or had given more time to her trying to recover her voice, but that was kind of glossed over at the end of the film. No matter. I still liked it because I got to hear Maria Callas recordings for almost two hours.

Henrik S (de) wrote: It is great to see Brittany Murphy, she is a true sex icon in my opinion. However, the film just fails for many reasons. It follows the formula of slasher films, apart from the quirky idea that the killers is going after virgins instead of the other way around. However, that fact is not really used to its maximum potential. The worst thing about the film is, that you can tell who the murderer is by looking at the casting list, go ahead, try it, .... see ... it works, it is super obvious and that makes the whole tension disappear from the get go. A turkey

Mloy X (es) wrote: Back in the days when Winona Ryder was known more for her acting rather than her shopping habits. Anyway, I remembered liking this film when it first came out and figured it could hurt to check it out again. Great cast of characters each with their own trust and commitment issues brought together by a wedding quilt. After the second viewing, I can honestly admit, I still like it.

Ollie W (fr) wrote: Coarse, offensive and utterly ridiculous, Pedro Almodovar's second feature retains the rough, comic abandon of his first film and yet begins to show evidence of his ability to tie together a more succinct and intelligent narrative style. Each character is a beautifully constructed caricature, each intertwining story-line an exuberant and indulgent contrivance, and yet come the final manic car-chase, you will surely be rooting for the gay prince of Tiran and his nymphomaniac lover.
