Isabelle's life revolves around the New York bookshop she works in and the intellectual friends of both sexes she meets there. Her grandmother remains less than impressed and decides to hire a good old-fashioned Jewish matchmaker to help Isabelle's love-life along. Enter pickle-maker Sam who immediately takes to Isabelle. (mx) wrote: It's no surprise that one of the first Gremlins clones was not one of the best. Ghoulies was released in 1985 by Empire Pictures, Charles Bands' production company. It had a theatrical release, but eventually became a direct-to-video staple throughout the late 1980's and early 1990's with the sequels. The first one out is not very good, but it's not terrible either. The movie isn't really about the Ghoulies at all, but about an evil sorcerer trying to come back to life by way of his son. The Ghoulies themselves are in the background and don't really contribute too much to the plot, except in the last act. It's also funny how the marketing campaign was hung on the image of one of the Ghoulies popping up out of the toilet. It was actually a shot that was inserted after the film was finished once the marketing campaign was decided upon. Overall, the movie is pretty cheesy most of the time, but it can be a slightly enjoyable if you give it a chance. You won't be wowed, but mildly entertained.

(mx) wrote: A sub-par cast ensemble with Luke Wilson (who played Casey Kelso from That 70's Show, and appeared in Anchorman), Anna Faris (who appeared in a variety of critically panned films), Uma Thurman (arguably known for her role in Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2), and director Ivan Reitman (director of both Ghostbusters movies) and a brilliant plot idea that is executed miserably are the key points on what brought this movie down superbly.
(br) wrote: This movie was stupid! It was just a stupid film with a lack of plot or dialogue. It fails as a story and fails to be a horror film. Queen of the Damned is just a idiotic punk film with vague ideas, horrible acting and directing, and a lackluster script with no scares or plot. It's just a convoluted as hell addition to the worthless vampire genre.
