Cruel Gun Story
Businessmen arrange the early release from prison of Togawa, serving time for taking revenge on the truck driver whose carelessness confined Togawa's sister, Rei, to a wheelchair. They want Togawa to hijack an armored truck loaded with 120 million yen; their leverage is to promise him money for surgery for Rei. Togawa consents and plans the heist with three others. The plan is solid, but it doesn't go smoothly. Togawa must improvise, there are traitors somewhere, and double-crosses mount. (es) wrote: If you weren't aware of Phil Ochs' wide range of musical compositions and his political persona during the turbulent 60s, this film would serve mostly as a historical chronicle of those times. But for those of us fortunate enough to have known and loved his work, it is a beautifully-made documentary/biography of him with his music playing throughout. I was fortunate enough to not only love his music but to have been graced with his generous spirit when he agreed to meet with a friend of mine and me at a little restaurant in Westwood in 1971 when he was 31 and we were 16. I was really moved by this film and reminded of what a brilliant songwriter he was. I want to revisit his music, especially Pleasures of the Harbor, Tape from California and Rehearsals for Retirement. The film solved the mystery in my mind about what happened to Phil beginning with the Greatest Hits album up to his suicide at 35. Phil Ochs was one of the greatest songwriters of our century and one who should have been celebrated far more than he has been.

The results are interesting - affording us the sensation of eavesdropping on trade talk, getting the skinny on how our planet will be shaped in the coming decades - but somewhat limited in its aims and impact, particularly when set against 2009's extraordinary "Last Train Home", a more human and expansive depiction of the heightened Chinese work ethic. By way of compensation, the Francises carry over from "Black Gold" their acute visual sense, contrasting underdeveloped African outposts with the futuristic metropoli where the brokers and moneymen negotiate the fate of millions, and - in both locations - making much of the posters, murals and banners that seek to impose Asian business ideals on their immediate surroundings. As one Zambian exec states, the writing is, in every sense, on the wall. This would appear China's world now; the rest of us are merely living in it.

What was this movie about, had to be a low point in everyone?s career. I knew I was in trouble when netflix sent me a 1997 Movie, that had not a scratch one on it. Looked like a movie right out of the case, meaning, no one has watched it, and for good reason. You give this anything more then 2 stars you might want to get a life. Gets 1/2 a star from me. TRASH IT

It was somewhat boring along with the unappealing scenes of carrying pianos in Hamburg and New York. The movie also consists of lots of German subtitles and my Dad knows German so he didn't really need them but I don't speak it at all or have any intention of learning it.

When I was 21 I lived in Salvador for 10 months and then traveled to Belo Horizonte Victoria Rio Sao Paulo then on the La Paz Bolivia by train from Sao Paulo. I like this film better than Ebert and some other reviewers. The main character is really a rather despicable character. If you are not familiar with some of the underbelly of big cities-slums queens prostitutes drugs squalor drag transsexuals homosexuality nocturnal criminal activity by choice -this film might offend you. Parts of it are very graphic. however even though the main character is a horrible creature I still liked and admired the film as it goes in to places scenes areas that few films dare to go. It is amazing that this is Karim Ainouz first feature film. It is very impressive. Other reviewer " drag queen becomes martyr" and then a Brazilian popular cultural icon. I think it is still a very compelling film Watch this at your own risk!! four stars
