Carl M (br) wrote: The ghosts of the past return after the Benson family moves in to the accursed Amityville house, and now, the footage of their horrifying ordeal has finally been found... THE AMITYVILLE HAUNTING isn't even worth commenting on, seeing as how no one will be able to sit through the first hour anyway. It is another trite and cliche haunted house film that uses the "found-footage" technique to alleviate the cast and crew of any responsibility for the poor performances and careless writing. The introduction of the irritating Benson family is enough to drive anyone away immediately, but stick around long enough, and you can marvel as the shadowy CG ghosts dart on and off screen while pushing people down the stairs. Inexcusable direct-to-video garbage.

Mike V (ca) wrote: While accurately portraying 1950s America, this stylish, colourful, excessive, restrained, slow paced and melodramatic movie kept reminding me of daytime soaps. The film deals with various issues such as racism, bigotry, and unapproved love. Although captivating in some regards, I kept wanting more and unfortunately the ending didn't deliver it to me. 1001

El Dorado isn't as polished and the cast isn't quite as strong overall, but with the Duke, Robert Mitchum and James Caan in key roles there is no shortage of star power. El Dorado also manages to build the same warm and friendly atmosphere as the earlier film.
