Marah R (gb) wrote: The movie starts out really slow and drags up until the end where its best plot is revealed as a twist of the protagonist being dead the entire time.

Tyler K (ru) wrote: Smart. That's the best way to describe this movie other than the word jarring. The art style was fantastic, the anxiety attack sequences were well done and realistic, and the background that this film had during production is truly memorable. Pi makes you think about math, science, and the universe in a completely different way, incorporating the stock market's possible pre-generated pattern and the Jewish relation to God and a 216 digit long number. Clint Mansel absolutely nails the music, and the sound effects were top notch. I had to watch this film a few times to really get the gist of it all, but I liked it better with each viewing. I recommend this film to people who enjoy bizarre psychological thrillers or just want to experience something original.

Stuart K (jp) wrote: Written by Simon Beaufoy, fresh at the time from the success of The Full Monty (1997), wrote this unusual romantic drama. Alot of baggage came with it, could it be another success?? Nope, it sank without trace, a great pity really, as it's a good film too. It has unemployed labourer and amateur climber Ray (Pete Postlethwaite) getting a job he can put his climbing abilities too. He's asked to paint 15 miles of pylons in the Peak District outside Sheffield. He assembles his team with Steve (James Thornton), Bob (Andy Serkis), Frank (Alan Williams), Weasel (Rob Jarvis) and Shovel (Lennie James). They have 3 months to do the job, along the way. they meet Australian backpacker Gerry (Rachel Griffiths), and she proves a dab hand at the job. Over time, she and Ray become romantically involved, and Ray proposes to Gerry which she accepts. However, the pace of the work takes it's toll on Ray and his workers, who are at each other's throats at times, and it affects his relationship with Gerry, who begins an affair with Steve, Ray's climbing partner. It's very unconventional, but it does showcase the great Postlethwaite in a romantic lead, and you get to see a young Andy Serkis line dancing. Beaufoy had better luck a decade later with Slumdog Millionaire.

Rose (mx) wrote: Meandering coming-of-age story about college punks trying to come to grips with the real world. The story has been done numerous times and Glory Daze doesn't really add much new to the genre. The movie isn't engaging enough even on a mindless level, devoid of the humor and antics found in such other '90s classics as PCU, nor are the characters and their stories developed enough to take the entire work seriously. The film overall seemed to be riding this wave between melancholy and comedy but continued to wander in it's attempt right up until the rehashed ending. Not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it just didn't have the same kind of charm it's contemporaries have. This is Wilkes' first film as a director and it shows through very strongly.

Clintus M (br) wrote: "Don't Yank It, It's Not Your Dick!" This line from Marlboro (Don Johnson) delivered to Harley (Mickey Rourke) pretty much tells you what you need to know in order to appreciate this movie. I love it; it's a buddy action flick about a family-type group's attempt to get even and get a little justice for the little guy. It's not even remotely base in reality, and the plot and action are juvenile, but this is testosterone-based escapism at its finest. This fine film plays like a goofier version of Heat or some other heist/caper drama that takes itself too seriously. The title alone should tell you that director Simon Wincer uses the two iconic stereotypes to set a loose, playful mood. Come on; admit it, the title made you curious enough to watch this. I love the cast: pre-surgery Rourke, Johnson's probably the best actor, Tom Sizemore-the evil banker and his unusual henchmen led by Daniel Baldwin, Vanessa Williams and Tia Carrere are eye-candy, while Chelsea Field is pretty and talented. The rest, Big John Studd included, fill out a raucous cast. Harley-Marlboro was a box office disappointment, making only $7 million on a $23 million budget, but don't let that deter you from the fun of watching it. There are too many attempts at sub-plots and backstories; watch this for the "we're in this together" camaraderie. Don't look for some higher purpose or anything artsy or Oscar=worthy. It's pure cheesy fun.

Eric R (br) wrote: A little boy is teased for being afraid of clowns, but when three mental institution patients escape and dress up as clowns, the little boys fears come to life. Yes, this is the plot of a pretty damn fun horror movie. There is no real gore but it definitely has its share of good suspense and tension. Plus, you get to see Sam Rockwell in his big screen debut as the oldest brother, and damn hes funny.

Joshua H (ag) wrote: I will commend this film for actually managing to capture what a ninja typically is like...but it doesn't help the sub-par acting and the cliche action movie plot.
