Sidney S (it) wrote: Phil Spector proves to an interesting look at a trial that shook the music business. Al Pacino plays Phil Spector the music tycoon who revolutionized the business and sold millions of records, and is responsible for the creation of some of the most famous songs/artists/albums in history. This film is less about Spector's life and more about the trial and his connection to the death of Lana Clarkson in his home via gunshot. The film revolves more around the case itself as we see Helen Mirren play Linda Kenney Baden, Spector's attorney who is determined to prove his innocence. This drama may at times be rather dry and slow paced I found it to be interesting from the law perspective as well as the investigation into the case, but what makes it more fascinating is the entire Phil Spector person himself, his awkward actions, look and mannerisms. The film begins to take off once Pacino takes centre stage as Spector. Pacino is simply a legend and the greatest actor to ever live and he proves that once again in this film, the man is just a pure cinematic genius. He delves into the persona of Phil Spector. The way he presents himself he nailed the look, and quirks of him perfectly. You can clearly a see a dedicated performance and how the actor disappears into the character when Pacino is given such a great character to become. This film also features (in the mock trial scene) one of the greatest angry Pacino rants I have ever seen, that was definitely his high point of his performance in this film, truly mesmerizing. On another note if it had not been for Pacino this film probably would not have been as big or as well liked (by me). Its not up to par with HBO's You Don't Know Jack (another great Pacino performance) but Phil Spector does showcase some good performances and a great "fictional" story surrounding the controversial real life events.

George P (nl) wrote: In an act of complete stupidity a group of young offenders are sent on an outdoor bounds holiday because they made one of the other inmates kill himself. Such is British justice. The group of sex offenders, drug dealers, racists and a murderer are guarded by Sean Bean all on his own, bad planning. Poor old Sean gets shot and eaten by dogs and the inmates have to survive the nasty killer man and his dogs without any adults. The skinhead in this film had a wonderful boot shaped head and it was good to watch him die.

Alex S (kr) wrote: This film did not turn out the way I was expecting. It's an altogether juvenile story that drags out far too long. Alan Bates' character could not sit still for one second - I wanted to sedate him. The only appealing part of the movie in the first half, but it's all moral breakdown after that.

Jeffrey B (nl) wrote: I will confess. I was a person who thought dancing a street fight was ridicules. Dancing greasers. Stupid. My wife wanted to see it so I watched it. I am NOT a dance person. Instead of just telling a story straight. This tells the story through dance. The first 5 or so minutes has no talking at all. Just dance. But dance to call all the greasers together. The rumble scene is unbelievable. Stylized fighting to dance. The musical score is beyond any musical I have ever seen. See this with an open mind bout dancing. You will understand

Mike S (es) wrote: Finally, this is more like it. This film had great banter between Powell and Loy and is their best film outside the Thin Man movies. I'm looking forward to watching it again so I can piece the story together better.

Andrew M (de) wrote: Dumb and Dumber To is hilarious and entertaining. This movie is better than the original Dumb and Dumber. This movie has a good plot. I would suggest this movie.

Becky T (br) wrote: It's pretty cheesy and the green screen is pretty noticeable in places, but still generally entertaining.

Sgt C (kr) wrote: (54%)A throwback of sorts to the frothy romantic comedies of the 50's and 60's, only here it stars Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt rather than Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, or maybe even Marilyn Monroe. And it's not just the inclusion of swing music in the soundtrack, but also the general look and feel in which this is assembled together; also the mostly light-hearted nature and bubbly concept has a trace of a past period's charm. Gibson is on very good form here in the leading role in which he clearly put a lot of effort into, and the premise is used fairly well with enough humour and bite to the writing for the movie to never really bog down or become overly silly. At around 2 hours long it does stretch itself too far, and the parts dealing with a depressed co-worker drags the movie out and poorly fits in with everything else this has in terms of tone. For what it is, and how awful it could have been, this is a perfectly good entry into Gibson's filmography.
