But with the help of his doctor, Cole just might overcome his injuries-- and his fear.

The movie tells the story of stock-car driver Cole Trickle, a young fireball on the Southern stock-car circuit who has loads of talent but no conception of how to channel that talent in to racing success. Alice S (au) wrote: Includes all the ingredients of an indie movie: an aimless nogoodnik, an estranged family who tests his adult responsibilities, a strange part-time job that requires a quirky/cute costume, a redemption moment that establishes his self-worth and strengthens his bond with aforemetioned estranged family. It's all very nice, and I like the quirky filmmaking aspects as well, like zooming in on weird physical phenomena, like the ghosty rotations a plastic spoon makes after you let go from stirring it.I would have liked a bit more life or explanation in Lisa Kudrow's character. Yes, she's a depressive, but there isn't much for the character or actor to do, and the reasons for her affair are just a bit too indie-understated...indiestated? I also wonder why Salman leaves before reconciling with his brother, which seems to have been a source of tension throughout the whole movie.

Timothy S (jp) wrote: A lot of movies have dealt with women coping with the loss of a man in combat, but "Grace is Gone" does a complete gender reversal in showing a husband dealing with the death of his Army wife. It's an idea that could have worked, and by all rights it should have, but this particular film takes a lot of wrong turns starting with the basic premise.Everything that the John Cusack character does in the film seems to be the result of some sort of mental illness, and because of that, it's very difficult to feel any sympathy towards his emotionally traumatized character. It's understandable that grief hits people all in different ways, but taking your young daughters cross country to an amusement park before telling them that their mother has been killed seems irresponsible and emotionally dangerous. Not calling your work or the kids school seems foolish as well, but maybe not quite as damaging. Cusack is, generally speaking, one of my favorite actors but he seems out of place in this. It's a maudlin performance even before he finds out about his wife's death, and surprisingly it's not very effective. His parenting style seems odd and out-of-touch even before the road trip idea, and talking to his deceased wife via the answering machine doesn't exactly scream "stability" either.Basically, in the ill-concieved "Grace is Gone", he does everything that you shouldn't do if this were a real-life situation. A lot of people were moved by this, but I found it to be oddly cold and emotionally distant.

Mikel B (jp) wrote: One of the most influential films ever made, in my opinion, 'Roger Rabbit' cleverly blends live-action and animation. Even though the mixing of actors with animated characters has been done before this, the movie was a great technical achievement, along with the first 'Toy Story', which was released seven years later.

rocknblues 8 (mx) wrote: Police Academy is a fun early 80's misfit comedy that gets a lot backlash because it's not the most intelligent comedy around. But it's a fun film that sadly has seen it's reputation hurt by the high number of bad sequels. The entire cast is a joy to watch and I grew up with this movie so maybe there is favoritism, but I'll like it to the day I die. There isn't much to say other than that. As I said, it's not a high brow comedy and if you're okay with that I can't see why anyone wouldn't like this movie. They sure don't make them like this anymore.

Randy P (kr) wrote: The excessive nudity are the least of your worries, because due to the acting and graphic effects of this 70's film seems real enough to make this a hard watch for first viewers. The story is okay, the plot is original, although a little offensive. The ending is fun when the characters have their situations flipped, giving you some relief and satisfaction.

Felix G (kr) wrote: Japanese alien-invasion film has some overt political messages (aimed primarily at the U.S.) and some of the same social observations that Romero would later make in "Night of the Living Dead," but it's also quite campy. The use of color is terrific, and the special effects manage to be both gross and funny at the same time.
