Set in the "not-too distant future", martial law has been declared in The City in leu of a looming earthquake. However, the earthquake is merely a ruse, a story fed to the public so the TWF (True World Forces) can capture an alien spotted over the city some few days earlier. A TWF agent runs into the alien (a *hottie* who can change her appearance, while always remaining - of course - a hottie), and the two go off and, um, compare their respective physiology (yeah, that's it).

The premise and events were contrived but it always hinted that something profound was going to happen (it doesn't)I actually feel completely sick to the core knowing I spent money renting this film. It really was slower than a pregnant slug with with a limp on s hot day)I challenge anyone to find a more tedious and pointless film. The script appears to be written by someone in their sleep. Seriously after half an hour I thought it would be better to watch coffin lids warp.Everyone involved in this film needs to be named and shamed and never work in the industry again. I occasionally write thoughtful reviews for films but I cannot begin to with After the dark. It really was beyond aweful. Thanks and cheery bye.
(mx) wrote: Well worth watching. Maria Bello and Stephen Dorff give solid performances with more subtlety of character than you would expect from a low-budget thriller. The film looks great, better than most of the shot-on-video stuff that you see in theaters these days. Some genuinely intense moments and good acting from top to bottom make up for the few weak spots.

The team must supposedly operate without support because they've been publicly disavowed, yet they have access to mobile command centres hidden throughout Europe, the latest intelligence on their targets, lots of cool gear, and apparently large sums of money for clothes and airplane tickets. The villain's motives are right out of some 1960s spy movie, and everyone in the film is chasing a briefcase containing nuclear launch codes. Very retro, I suppose. Oh, and Tom Cruise runs. A lot. It seems to a common sight in these films to see Tom sprinting. Run, Tom, run!

(us) wrote: The Python magic just doesn't translate here, as they are playing to too big an audience, and performing material they have been performing for years. They sort of sleepwalk through the endeavor. Can't believe I didn't see this earlier, being such a Python fanatic. I've been watching them since there first run on PBS in the early 70's. It did remind me a little of the performance I saw at New York's City Center in '78.

I would literally start watching the movies from the beginning of the marathon right down to the end. It's this reason why I'll admit that my rating is definitely influenced by the nostalgic effect this film has on me. The last time I saw this film I was probably 7 or 8. I found it incredible, how 15 years later, I was able to remembered most of the movie in detail. While now its admittedly silly, the scene where Bond hops over the crocodiles always captivated me. Also, the dude with a metal claw for an arm has always been a memorable child hood "bad guy". So what did I think of it this time around? Roger Moore's first foray as 007, is an action packed thrill ride and a solid addition to the Bond franchise. While it's undeniably silly and the plot is preposterous, it's a Bond movie and that's to be expected. It has everything a 007 film should have; action, espionage, explosions, car chases, romance, humor, and charm. Oh and we can't forget the eternally awesome "Live and Let Die" original song by Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Linda :).
