All of those views are equally right and wrong, Carax doesn't want you to be sure about what it all meant (if it actually meant anything), he just wants you to stand in awe , and in awe we stand.

Ken S (it) wrote: Terrence Malick followed his debut film with this beautiful film (visually speaking) about a man who flees Chicago after accidentally murdering a man, and take his girlfriend and sister along with him. To avoid gossip, I guess, he tells people his girlfriend is his sister, and this causes a series of unfortunate events to unfold, including her marrying the farmer they come to work for (believing he doesn't have long to live and they could inherit his farm). The film is short on story really...it has a simple straightforward plot, but the cinematography is gorgeous and every frame looks excellent.
Juli R (nl) wrote: This movie almost would have been better without the lead character. Roger Greenberg (Ben Stiller) is just utterly unlikable. But so human that we somehow end up sympathizing with him. Noah Baumbach HAS to be one of my favourite screenwriters. What a fascinating character study this is. Maybe not for everyone. But really insightful and provocative.
