(es) wrote: I loved this movie. A fascinating insight into the hunters' yearly tasks in preparation for the hunting season. I was amazed by their axe-handling skill.
(br) wrote: Tony Kaye is a really talented filmmaker -- you can even see that here. But this is a film so bogged down in cliches, bloated melodrama, and nauseating misery that it baffles me how I could still feel even slightly affectionate. Its sort of a testament to Kaye's talent that a movie this unbelievably bad isn't all that bad. (Does that make sense?)

(fr) wrote: Can I please have the 100 minutes of my life back that ive just wasted on this? Recommended to me by a colleague who was a friend as well but is now just a colleague after this. Bizarre non-sensical story with endless chases around the Underground\Metro\Subway (not the sandwich shop) with the painfully inept French version of the Transport Police that ends with a shooting during an 80s rock concert by the cast of It Aint Half Hot Mum. I could go on except that id rather gnaw my own left foot off.Lambert sports the most ridiculous hairstyle since Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands and even the usually superb Jean Reno is reduced to an imbecilic drummer that has no name who carries a set of drumsticks everywhere he goes.On the plus side it does look good and has a feel that is more 80's than Pink Legwarmers & Saturday evenings watching The A-Team.

(nl) wrote: Western about two strong women fighting over land and a peaceful guitar playing wanderer. One of the most influential westerns to date, the character of Johnny Guitar could also rate among the best characters in western history. The film also strikes for its idiosyncratic use of strong female characters which was somewhat unusual for the American western genre. The performances are great, and the soundtrack signed Victor Young is memorable.
(fr) wrote: Still the best dinosaur movie ever made(King Kong and Godzilla movies don't count)The plot the acting Samuel Jackson with a cameo plus Dinosaurs what more can you want plus Newman gets killed.
(fr) wrote: Post apocalyptic rollerskating gangs. That should be enough to sit you down for 2 hours! But wait... there's a poorly animated alien - now you HAVE to watch it. The contrived plot mechanism of roller skates is just campy enough to be amusing; further to that you will recognize several familiar faces among the cast.
(ag) wrote: 2.5: Not Monroe's best, nor Mitchum's. It doesn't really qualify as a Western either. It's really a cross between a Western and a Romantic Comedy, which makes it somewhat unusual. It's solid entertainment, but nothing to write home about. The lack of modern CGI and/or more up-to-date camera techniques definitely show in the river action sequences.
(fr) wrote: WOW. This was another of those movies that give you lots of suspense and then fail to give you a reason why you sat and watched one and a half hours of something that totally had no meaning whatsoever. It was a thought provoking movie, had you wondering what was going to happen next, and I really did ENJOY watching this one. But the ending was like *WHAM* No more. End of story. I guess the characters continue to go on with their lives in the same manner, and it's up to you to decide how their tomorrow's went. It was more a movie that SHOWED how people FEEL. Rather than make everything all fall into place in the end, and everyone lives happily ever after, or even the exact opposite, where nothing works out for anyone, and you turn off the movie hoping for a sequel so that they have another chance to find happiness and bring real meaning to their lives - the ending just wasn't CLEAR in any way about any of the details or any of the people's lives or future's. I really liked this movie. Did NOT like the way it ended and left you just sitting there thinking "what was that all about...?" I doubt I will ever watch it again. 3 1/2 stars. Could have been a 4 star movie if the ending had been more "resolved."
