Graham B (it) wrote: Inspiered by the life of Bruce Lee's master Ip Man, Womg Kar Wai takes us on a spellbinding tale of Ip Man's rise to greatness through tumults with the families controlling various regions of China. In a nutshell, Ip Man's peaceful life in Foshan changes after Gong Yutian seeks an heir for his family in Southern China. Ip Man then meets Gong Er who challenges him for the sake of regaining her family's honor. After the Second Sino-Japanese War, Ip Man moves to Hong Kong and struggles to provide for his family. In the mean time, Gong Er chooses the path of vengeance after her father was killed by Ma San.This is Wong Kar wei. It's fucking gorgeous to look at. You could hang any frame in your home as a piece of art. The vengeful storyline is engagingly operatic at times, but does drag out some. All is forgiven though as the fight scenes are par excellence. The wie-fu is evident as a must, but it does not over ride. This film kicks off with one of the best acton sequences of the decade.Aside fron the action though, the drama is handled well as gender politics move in. Zhang Ziyi is a great player here. Formidable in battle, yet bloomin gorgeous. It is a long winded affair and not for everyone. I lobed it though.

Jonas S (it) wrote: I will never understand the negativity and poor reviews regarding Book of Shadows. This remains in my top 10 horror movies after years(although, JUST in the top 10). The Critics Consensus above is awful in my opinion with the only, albeit, stinging flaw that they connected this movie to the Blair Witch at all. They didn't need to but, I suspect that there were behind the scenes factors that forced this script to take that name.I'm not going to go on and on about the movie, but I could. The strongest element that has lingered with me and what sets this movie apart is how easily and well the characters are tricked into their situations. Yes there are elements from other horror and possession-based films, much like every horror and possession-based film. But it works. The characters and their development were nicely fleshed out and they felt a lot closer to real people to me than many other films. I enjoyed the suspense and the twists immensely and this movie will continue to rate high in my book. Oh, and btw, - that "Movie Info" - that canNOT be right, can it? That's like the worst synopsis ever.

Unfortunately, there was also a ridiculous storyline added about an idiot reporter trying to interview the group. That should have been cut. This could have been a perfect music documentary.
