Wilson plays a womanising bachelor who hasn't got a penny to his name, even though he works as a weatherman on local TV, and Galifianakis plays his disturbed best friend who has to go home to his dads funeral. Wilson decides to go with his best friend to the funeral and when the will gets read out, Galifianakis finds out that he has inherited most of his dads wealth, which amounts to millions, so his sister, played by Poehler, decides to fight him for the money because she thinks that he hasn't got the mental capability to handle the everything. On top of that, there dads ex-wife, whose a attractive young woman, is still living in the house but she isn't fighting for any of the money. Anyway, the storyline was pretty twisted and the individual characters had there own personal issues to deal with. I personally didn't find it that funny and the characters lacked chemistry because they all come from completely different world's and they just didn't seem to connect. The storyline seemed like a right mess because the director tried to cram in to much elements at once so it didn't seem to flow properly. On the plus side, Galifianakis has some funny moments but thats about it. Disappointing!Round-Up:With movies in this genre dominating the box office at the moment, I'm surprised that I didn't hear about this film before it got released on DVD, especially with big names like Wilson, Galifianakis and Poehler in it. To be honest, it's not there best material, but it was made by the director of the Sopranos and Mad Men so I was expecting much better. It also seemed like the director didn't have anywhere to go halfway through the film so he introduces the love element which also turns out to be a right mess. All of the big names in the movie seem to be in weird positions in there careers at the moment and they only really work well in cameo roles so it was a gamble to put them in leading roles, which didn't really pay off.I recommend this movie to people who are into their comedies about a disturbed man who inherits loads of money from his dead father and with the help of his best friend, they battle against his sister to keep the fortune. 3/10

David L (ca) wrote: The hype that this film received didn't exactly make me want to rush out and see this, but when presented with the opportunity, it turned out to be fairly easy viewing. A lot of comparisons are being made with the book but as I'm not one to read they'll be no such thing from me. I somehow get the impression though that similar to the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, this movie will receive more and more hype as the films keep on coming. Exactly what makes it compelling is hard to pinpoint, but it's more that there is not a lot wrong with it that keeps its watchability factor up. The sadistic side of me was admittedly quite entertained by the premise of an arena full of kids battering each other to the death, although you know from the 12A rating that this is never going to be as gruesome as it sounds. I guess in a sense this was technically the toned down version of 'Battle Royale', with no gore and no brutality..... It's all in the mind, with the odd snippet of violence here and there to keep the hardened teenagers amused. In hindsight, I guess this film was a little predictable in the sense that we all know who is likely to be the victor in this tournament, and it's quite astounding how little they have to do to actually win! Many of the kills just happen in the free-for-all at the start when 50% of the contenders are wiped out immediately. Other than district 1 and 2 bad-asses, we learn very little of anyone else. It's disappointing that we therefore miss a lot of potential action, but on the other hand I understand that the target market for this film would not be primarily concerned with that as it focuses more on using the imagination, creating fantasy worlds, and giving the audience a hero / heroine to root for - In fact, you could say this is a film somewhere in the middle of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. As an independent film, you'd think this has a long drawn out introduction, but given it's a series with four instalments, the prolonged wait before the main action makes a bit more sense. Therefore, despite not feeling gripped at first, it's definitely a film that does progress and gets better with time. With that in mind, fingers crossed it can continue where it left off in episode 2 as i'm not totally sold on this series just yet, but I'll certainly give the sequel a look in!

Craig T (gb) wrote: As rich as a great short story and as sensitive, assured and revelatory as modern movies are allowed to be. The film hits not one false note, effectively balancing a simple premise that's anything but. Geraghty and Byrd are stellar. This is a great film.

Dan H (mx) wrote: A fantastic, dark, disturbing film. It's almost Hitchcockian with the way it handles it's plot and proceedings. It's part mystery, and part intense psychological drama. The film enjoys slowly peeling back it's layers and playing with the audience and what we know or think we know. All the actors and actresses do a pretty bang up job. Definitely one of the better made independent films, and one I would highly recommend given you can stomach this film's disturbing subject matter.

Aside from that, this is so very boring and totally amateurish. It's a shame that this movie could've been so much more, but it's not and don't believe the hype.

Michael W (jp) wrote: I should probably go home, but no one else is leaving, so I guess we're all going to starve. It's an utterly absurd premise, but Buuel kind of pulls it off.

Matthew D (es) wrote: The first hour is such madcap fun performed which such conviction and with inventive imagery that it's easy to forgive its lack of narrative, if it's directionless, so what? It's a drug trip on screen. By the second hour, however, things start wear thin and there's a massive come down in entertainment and interest.
