James R (ag) wrote: I wanted to like this one, but this just wasn't my cup of tea. Swiss Army Man is about a young man stranded on an island named Hank (Paul Dano). He's in the process of killing himself when a dead body washes ashore. At first he think the person is alive, but soon realizes that Manny (Daniel Radcliffe) who he names, has a ton of abilities. His farts propel him across the water, he can chop wood and strangest of all he begins to talk to Hank providing him entertainment and companionship. If that whole last two fragments didn't blow your mind you actually might enjoy this one. There's a deeper meaning to it all. Since technically Manny is in Hank's mind (or is he?) there's a certain acceptance finally of who he is and going against the norm of what society deems "normal." The movie isn't long at all, but the pacing of the last half kinda just slows down a bit. I laughed a bit (cmon it's fart jokes aplenty), but for the most part I was kinda grossed out by it (it eventually even becomes something like a gay necrophiliac movie). The movie is bizarre and wasn't for me, but if the source material interests you I would say give it a look on Amazon Prime where it's currently free to watch!

David C (fr) wrote: Looks glorious... And some nice performances... But an example of style over substance... And yet there was a lot more substance there to be explored. And without spoiling the ending, the clumsiness of the plot devices was embarassing, as was the last lingering shot...

Justin A (es) wrote: Surprised this was the only page for this movie with only 4 ratings at the moment. I actually enjoyed this movie a lot more than I expected to. It's basically an 80s, German version of Takashi Miike's Audition. The movie is a slow build to a climax, but what carries it is the wonderful performance by Desiree Nosbusch as the obsessed fan. The first half in her world is great, albeit a bit slow to get to the plot. The middle portion of the film suffers a bit, mostly when they decide to do an in studio performance with the artist "R", even though he doesn't actually sing live and just walks around a bunch of mannequins. It's sleep inducing stuff. The movie finally picks it all up at the end, and while you may think you know where the movie is going, you REALLY have no idea how far it's going to go.I have a few nitpicks, but overall it was an entertaining movie carried by a good performance and plenty of great shots. If you're a fan of the aforementioned Audition then this movie is almost a must see.

Darrin C (it) wrote: This was pretty good. Very well acted with attention to detail and stayed interesting through the entire movie. No sloppy ending either! Well done. Depp and Turturro were good together and Dutton wasn't bad either.
