(fr) wrote: It's a really interesting documentary that gives a little more insight into a mans enthusiasm for his car, but really only glosses over the heart of the feelings involved, be it a shared passion with childhood friends, or even observations for the turns his life has taken in hollywood. The passion is still earnest and engaging though, and I imagine a dedicated petrolhead would have a lot more fun with it than myself, I hold my hand up to that. Still the look at australian muscle cars, and Rally Racing is fascinating, and there's some great interior, exterior camera work worthy of Top Gear. Ironically even with Dr Phil in there, it's down to Leno to actually decide to push some buttons in conversation with Bana and challenge him a little, it's a shame he couldn't respond, and given some real depth to the feelings involved, which without are reduced to "boys with toys" posturing. What could've been a chance to muse on life, youth, friends, love, passion, and in the end grief, isn't really capitalized on, but the film asks some good questions, even if they aren't answered, and get the audience thinking a little none the less. Still, room for improvement, and definitely room for a sequel.

(gb) wrote: Top ten of all time for me. The cast is unspoiled by conventional 'acting' theory so you have a fresh, natural manner to them. Fell in love with Jenny Agutter in 1971 and adore her still. That poem, from The Shropshir Lad is so deeply poignant that I memorized it the first time I heard it.
(br) wrote: An amazing B-movie Spaghetti Western that has prompted countless imitations and unofficial sequels (one official only), boasting an iconic sullen anti-hero who would greatly influence the Italian sub-genre. A muddy, violent classic that should not be missed.

Sure, sometimes he takes things a little too far in the conspiracy angle but with this latest film he delivers a refreshing respite from finger pointing and just focuses on awesome things that other countries are doing and how we could learn from them. Pretty neat, right? Some of these things have been covered (to a lesser extent) in his previous works and therefore don't deliver a lot of surprise. Nor does Moore even remotely touch upon the obstacles that prevent such measures from being adopted in the United States. Instead, the film is essentially a glorified laundry list of things that would seemingly make life here in the good old US of A better. On one hand this is sort of empty calorie, government porn but he then ties things up nicely in the end with an anecdote about chipping away at the Berlin Wall, which was once thought to be unbreakable but ended up coming down once everyone joined in. So while this isn't necessarily the emotional gut punch of his previous efforts, the spirit is there to inspire us to a greater society so now I suppose it's in our hands. Thanks, Mike.
