Jeffrey F (jp) wrote: My God, I wish they had kept making these. Nakadai and Mifune, together again. And this is the best coupling. The fear, the jealousy, the uncertainty in Ryunosuke - his cowardice, his strange style, his elusive motives, his torment, this is the stuff of true suspense. Mifune is perfect as the stable, noble adversary, and the snow slaughter is one of my favorite scenes in all Japanese cinema. They say the sword is the soul of the samurai, and this movie is all about the soul of the anti-hero.

Trevor R (kr) wrote: James Cagney is wonderful as Silent film great Lon Chaney. Since this is a Hollywood biography, the film is a mix of fact and fiction. The scenes with Cagney in Chaney's makeup for some of his greatest films is a treat to watch. Soon to be Producer Robert Evans has a great part as Legendary Producer Irving Thalberg. A excellent film and a treat for film buffs.

Shaun B (fr) wrote: Not a great film, but it's a very interesting idea with some okay performances.
