Robert G (de) wrote: This review is gonna be a little different. Considering all 26 short films in this one film are written and directed by a different person, I will put each letter in either Pros or Cons and determine the score that way and will not spoil anything.Pros:-A: Didn't expect it-C: Seen this story before in movies but it wasn't bad-D: Not really horror, but the twist was nice-E: This one plays to my fears, but I've read a story like this film before-H: Just excellent. Don't know if I could call it horror though-I: A little disturbing to watch for certain reasons for me-J: Hilarious, not horror though-M: Disturbing-Q: Self aware and kinda funny-R: Very interesting and well done-S: At first it's gonna seem stupid, but if you've ever known someone like the ones at the end you'll know what this film is going for-T: Probably the best one in the whole film-V: Interesting story-W: Hilarious mindfuck-X: Fucked up but well done-Y: Nevermind, this one has to be the best of the movie. Nice 80's esque music too.Cons:-B: Made no sense-F: Wtf??-G: This one, I tell you what..-K: I don't even know what to say-L: So awkward to watch-N: Cliched-O: Not horror and reeks of the indie artsy style that I'm not too fond of-P: I just personally didn't enjoy this one-U: Nothing that great-Z: I have no clue of what I just watchedConclusion:The ABCs of Death is an average horror comedy anthology film worth at least one watch.
Alexander R (nl) wrote: There is Sumida, and his stalker, Franois Villon plays a part, Hitler not so much, some disaster victims, a couple of seriously disfunctional families, the yakuza, some crazy people, dead people, lots of punching, slapping and blood, and the ending is not what you think it will be, depending on what you think the ending will be. And there's mud; lots and lots of mud. While there are no talking animals, or flying cars, and it's not in 3D, this must be one of the more captivating recent movies, and I wouldn't have wanted to miss a minute of it. Keiko-the-stalker's character comes across as obsessed but smart and caring (she has her own horrible backstory), and is played brilliantly - you may find yourself routing for her throughout. The plot is all a bit chaotic, with a few surprising twists, and has been described elsewhere. Utterly watchable. My favourite is Keiko's Villon recital in the rain, and Sumida's smart put down of the teacher's enthusiastic motivational speech. Watch it to know what this refers to.

Duncan C (es) wrote: This naturalistic medical comedy(black and very dry)/drama pulls no punches but neither does it beat you over the head with some agenda, resulting in a quietly compelling and very humanistic film.
Patryk C (de) wrote: One of the most underrated movies directed by Takashi Miike. It's a poetic art-house production, which focuses on the most covert aspects of human psyche, evaluating the dream-like realm of our minds. A Tokyo-based salaryman is sent to the most remote place in China (where no information goes in or goes out) on a mysterious mission to follow a precious Jade jewell trail. Along with him comes a fierce yakuza enforcer. While the two men arrive in a strange village, they discover more than they really bargained for. It's an adventure of the most inscrutable kind, showing how the unknown can change the way we perceive our world. With a contemplative storyline, mesmerizing imagery, sombre sense of humor, and a most haunting song ever, The Bird People in China comes as a very strong position in Takashi Miike's directorial career, and as a perfectly satisfying exploration of the human emotions.

Ben L (mx) wrote: I?ve never sat through a Sharknado movie, but I have to imagine that Zombeavers is a similar experience. The movie is terrible in every aspect of production. The cast is horrendous, not one person is good in their role, in fact most of the performances are actively annoying for one reason or another. The writing is awful, because no one behaves with even the slightest bit of logic, and the dialogue is a painful mix of cliched horror movie stuff and lame attempts at humor. The visuals were bad. I could not believe how often they shot things off-center or without proper lighting. The creature effects were just moronic. It was literally a bunch of beaver hand-puppets with different eyes inserted in the sockets. Don?t even get me started on the makeup effects when the people start to change. This is about when someone might say, ?You just didn?t get it, they did all of that intentionally to poke fun at common horror movie tropes.? But I assumed this was the case from the beginning, because the concept is so stupid and there were some clear attempts at jokes in the first scene. The problem is you can?t intentionally make a movie so-bad-it?s-good. When you set out to make a bad movie, it?s just going to be bad. It?s hard enough to make a good movie when you?re trying, so it?s ridiculous to even dream of making a bad movie that will transcend the dreck to actually be good. Movies that effectively poke fun at horror cliches (like Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) focus on making a legitimate horror movie but put a clever spin on it to surprise the audience. When all you do is directly recreate the horror cliches in a terrible way it?s not magically going to be ironic and funny. I hated Zombeavers with every fiber of my being and am glad I will never have to sit through this movie again.
