(ag) wrote: Ponyo is the story of a little fish that wanted to become a little girl. Essentially this is Miyazaki's take on a Little Mermaid story. Ponyo is a bit more a kids movie than Spirited Away, Nausicaa and some of the other Miyazaki films, but it is still entertaining. The backgrounds and some of the underwater animation scenes are simply breathtaking and that is what really keeps this film afloat.
(nl) wrote: Director Ousmane Sembene is a leading figure in African cinema. In the extras which accompany the DVD of this film he explains the problems he faced making it. "Moolaade" deals with a nightmare subject - female circumcision - which is described in the film as a 'purification' ceremony. A number of girls run away from the ritual and find sanctuary in a village. It's a wonderfully evocative and courageous film, and Sembene has laboured hard to deliver his narrative with sensitivity and conviction. The setting is exotic - a village in Burkina Faso which contains a Gaudiesque mosque, extraordinary henhouses, and a visual quality which emphasises the cinematographic skills of director and crew. Again, the extras explore the nature of African cinema and the difficulties faced by indigenous film makers. The combination of theme, narrative quality, the dynamic of the production, and the intellectual depth of the extras make this an absorbing and engrossing work. And exceptionally for a DVD, the extras are an outstanding contribution to the whole.

(kr) wrote: In one scene, a teenager scores a hit with a chainsaw at heroine. She hits back with a two by four kills him. I said "done!" Children of the Corn V- Field of Terror is a great name and has pretty cool looking cover, but is moronic like Christina's House. Deaths are nonsensical especially one involving chainsaw vs. two by four scene and people suddenly bursting into flames. It may come to a surprise that this film used to be based on a short story by Stephen King before the slew of sequels. Children of the Corn 5 needs a whooping along with the insipid writer and director!

Roy acutall y did not know that he had been set up and he did know that Skip did betray Roy and the heist group after the robbery. :) Love Harvey Keitel Forever he was soooooo great in this movie!!! <3
(us) wrote: This made-for-TV movie from the early 80's is a creepy little gem in the classic slasher flick vein, sans the graphic bloodletting. The formula is familiar, as the genre dictates, but it's still a whole lot of old-school horror fun.
(nl) wrote: Wonderful comic riff on Bonnie and Clyde, produced by and starring the brilliant Jim Carrey and a fine supporting cast that includes Tea Leoni, Richard Jenkins and a sleazy Alec Baldwin, hungrily skewering all the Trump-like monstrosities we know he loathes. It's zippily directed by Dean 'Galaxy Quest' Parisot, who knows exactly when to end things. Very underrated by the critics.
(nl) wrote: Though the material the film is based on is sheer gold, the disjointed storyline and ridiculously clipped pace makes it nearly unenjoyable.
