Director Garth Jennings has created an homage to growing up in the 80's, replete with neon clothing, an effeminately hip exchange student, and more frizzy do's than you can shake a hair crimper at. Joshua (Neil Dudgeon) and Will (Bill Milner) form the story's adolescent Odd Couple; like most child actors, their performances were uneven, but they do occasionally grab you with little moments of brilliance.

Mister C (jp) wrote: The year 1939 was a pennicle point in cinema. 1939 brought out a lot of great films and the action-adventure spectacle "Beau Geste" is one of them. In the best-known version of novelist Percival Christopher Wren perennial, Gary Cooper, Ray Milliand, and Robert Preston play Beau,John, and Digby Geste, three inseparable adventurous brothers in search of adventure which one of them steals their benefactress's family jewel,it's off to the French Foreign Legion for all. A fairly deadly early flashback introduces the brothers as children-though it's the only time you'll ever see Donald O'Connor playing a younger version of Cooper. The movie really kicks into gear when the brothers enlist into the brutal stages of unjustly war. Directed by the great William A. Wellman, the supporting cast features future Oscar winners Broderick Crawford and Susan Hayward. Oscar nominee Brian Donlevy is excellent and so damn good as Sgt. Markloff that some think he should have taken the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor award for his riveting performance. Worth seeing.

A biopic of a strange unknown nanny whos been dead for years has the potential to be very boring but even as someone who is not a big fan of human interest i enjoyed this very much. Photographers, hoarders and loners will enjoy this film the most.
Emiy K (gb) wrote: This movie teeters between mind-numbingly forgettable and compelling which is just a weird feeling as a movie-goer. The gems are the moments when the characters breakaway briefly from the tired plot. I wanted to watch that movie. Instead it was predictable in a way expected of Hollywood rom-coms, not an indie film. A couple scenes of genuine, deep emotion save this movie. It's a good one to watch while doing other things.

Chevy Chase as at the absolute height of his powers, and it's so much fun to watch him banter his way through a Louisiana murder mystery. The set pieces and gags are fresh-feeling and furious, and the plot rolls along breezily without making a big deal out of itself.
