One of my personal favorites. As a mother, listening to Dixie's speech about how it was hard when her husband died but a total betrayal when she lost her son, I don't know how anyone could not be moved. A fabulous showcase of music and drama

If you can have a sense of humor about this film and not take it so seriously, then you'll be laughing just as much as I was. This is coming from someone that never really got the appeal of the Christopher Reeve Superman films or Superman in general. Still, I had so much fun watching this movie because how bad it is. The Effects are laughable, the acting is hammy, the writing is a mess and all the characters in this movie are either tools or blank slates. I won't deny that Supergirl is a bad movie. Have as much fun as Faye and even Peter O Toole as Zaltar got a laugh or two. However, she could have at least done what everybody else was doing: don't take this movie seriously. On one hand, I understand she has no real good material to work with in the movie. However, the worst acting in this film is done by Helen Slater as Supergirl. Maybe taking over the world isn't her calling. Even though Selena is the lamest witch I ever seen on screen, it's still fun to watch her try to be evil. Anytime she says anything, I will laugh like a maniac. The best ham acting of all is Faye Dunaway as the evil witch Selena. Wow I've never seen so many hammy performances in one movie in my time as a movie goer. The "best part about this movie is the acting. So maybe that's why there are so many plot holes in this film and the script seems to have two plot threads instead of one. Now I've heard there was some drama behind the scenes of this movie involving issues with the script. "Supergirl" is now a coming of age story about a girl who has great but inconsistent powers. Not even halfway through, we the audience are dragged into a totally different movie. Excuse me, but you do know your planet needs that ball of power like right now? This is no time to find yourself and make friends with Lois Lane's sister. But then out of nowhere Kara ends up enrolling herself at a Private all girl school. In the movie, the story is set up like a rescue mission that has a time limit. Okay, here's where it gets weird. So, Supergirl goes to Earth to retrieve the ball of power. A power source (I'll just call it the ball of power) has been lost and without it the survivors will die. Kara is Superman's young cousin living in a planet of Krypton survivors. Why is this movie so bad but so good? Let's find out. Despite the bad acting, sloppy direction, awkward writing and one dimensional characters this film has a certain "charm" to it. Yes, this film is stupid but enjoyably stupid. It's time to review one of my favorite Guilty Pleasures, Supergirl

A pretty mediocre Action film

liver Platt and Matthew Modine are wacky!. The Mafia story is a really old saw, but Demme and his cast do their best to freshen it up with some gleefully silly line readings

Sure it's somewhat formulaic, but the gender swapped stuff ads a depth not usually seen. A surprisingly great teen comedy from the 80's that, because it uses Shakespeare has some interesting stuff going on behind the high school facade

Stallone does make this an epic and nasty and brutal final bout, and it does bring a pretty satisfying completion to a film that is enjoyable but too clichd by half. I especially dug that final wrestling match, the two contenders (the other being, I think, Terry Funk) duking it out as a rain storm is coming down in the arena and the power keeps cutting in and out with lightning effects thrown in. And yet, the film does have its moments. Stallone and Asante fare better with the material, and even Stallone himself goes hammy with his own words in some scenes; Stallone is Stallone, not a Pacino or De Niro, so heavy-duty dramatic scenes don't seem to cut it out as well. But it is at times fairly schmaltzy, and not all of the acting is very good (the female actresses are all pretty weak, and for a couple of good scenes Lee Canalito feel really flat as the "happy" wreslter brother dubbed "The Salami"). If there was a time to make this story maybe it was right after he has his first big success, and then move on to more conventional stuff. He gussies it up with over-blown camera moves and editing tricks (I hated the freeze-screen effects used), and seem to not always be as strong with dealing with melodrama and the natural way people talk as he did in the first Rocky. The problems seem to come for Stallone that he isn't confident enough to take the material where it needs to go as a down-and-dirty grungy street flick. Oh, and Tom Waits of course, for a role that is merely a blip but one that brings a smile all the same. Not to mention the character and performance of Frank McRae as the 40-something wrestler who lives in total degradation even as he's very good at what he does. I liked also how Stallone put these characters against the lumbering idiot gangsters who were too bumbling to really make it as big-shots but could be threatening enough to other bums and the like in the neighborhood. One had high aspirations and has a big mouth but a fairly good heart, another is a crippled war hero who's life has not worked out at all like he might have wanted for himself or his girl, and the other is a fairly content and BIG-sized ice delivery man who finds himself needing money to want that boat house. Cosmo, Victor and Lenny are impressionable and work very well as this trio dynamic. What I liked was seeing how the actors playing the brothers interacted. And not always in a good way. It certainly is. It's a sentimental picture as it tries to act super tough and muscular, and it's kind of like a Saturday afternoon movie for the guys who have already seen Rocky and Rambo flicks too many times and want to see something sort of "different". Paradise Alley is set in 1946 in the dingy and dirty streets of Hell's Kitchen- or the Bowery, take your pick, maybe more like the Bowery- and is centered on a group of characters, specifically three brothers, and how they try to maintain in their squalor or, as it turns out, try and make a way for themselves to get out

One star for being so terrible, a point five of a star for the title, and that's about it. I recommend it highly. It's great. Just putrid. This movie is awful

Papa Panda is the spitting image of Totoro. Young kids' stuff, very hard to rate, even for studio Ghibli
