James L (jp) wrote: Darkon is not only an excellent documentary but also a fairly entertaining comedy; as the people who participate in the world of Darkon are given the opportunity to tell the general public about what being a charachter means to them. The interviews seem to all paint the same message; that Darkon offers a therapuetic release from real world difficulties, and provides a sense of community. While somewhat strange, the documentary portrays this therapuetic outlet as not much different then Fantasy Football or video games or reading fiction; at least that is what I gleaned from the film. I guess in the end, the need to escape reality will always occur on far different levels for everybody.

The philosophy of a pacifist society is explored through the dialog of the characters. Although one might discount such muses as naive and idealistic, it is still nice to be able to dream of such places. Moreover it need only be metaphorical. Now why movies these days depict dystopian landscapes more often (think Terminator, 2012, Armaggedon etc)? May we all find our own Shangri-Las. Cheers.

I didn't realize the change in his face, which is mentioned everywhere, but i was shocked with that stupid ginger beard they put on him!
