(au) wrote: A very odd cast made up of a few famous names from either side of the pond and a few cast-off's from UK hooligan films. The historical element was there but not important to the film as it was basically a series of battles over a castle. The battles themselves though were pretty unique to this type of period film as they were super gory. The effects money was all spent on making a realistic attempt at showing people being cut up, and it was a real surprise at how effective it was. Gotta say that the whole film was ruined by the ending, surely that never happened in real history.

Archibald Cutteralong with with his three army drinking budies MacChansney and Ballantine played by Victor McLaglen and Douglas Fairbaks Jr. And Sam Jaffe in the title role as the Indian servant Gunga Din who supports our heroes any times and place no matter what. You Lazarushian-leather Gunga Din! Gunga Din is a wonderful and exhilarating film, you can see that Spielberg's Temple of Doom is inspiered by the exhilarating fun adventure. "Though I've belted you and flayed you, By the livin' Gawd that made you, You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!"

The Master shows he can still deliver into his 70s, with some effective humour on top of it all.
