Michael G (br) wrote: Dennis Hopper plays a combination of the world's biggest rube and possibly the world's most annoyingly desperate sailor who falls for a girl who may or may not be a psychopathic mermaid. The cinematography has a certain charm and I like Night Tide for that reason alone, but the dialogue and story are cheesy and forced. The score was enjoyable in a weird way, but it definitely didn't fit this movie. The massage scene was unintentionally hilarious and full of double entendres. Do not watch this movie before 1AM on a Friday or Saturday night for the full effect. If nothing else it sets a reasonably great atmosphere. Don't expect anything and you may enjoy it.
Rick R (ag) wrote: The Thin Man Goes Home (1945)This is the fifth in the Thin Man series of mysteries. There's no Nicky Jr. in this film. This time, Nick and Nora Charles (William Powell and Myrna Loy) are taking the train to see Nick's parents Dr. Bertram Charles (Harry Davenport) and Mrs. Charles (Lucile Watson) for Nick's birthday.Nick is very much on the wagon on this trip (only drinking cider) although nobody believes him. Naturally, the whole town suspects that Nick is in town on some big case, which Nora neither can confirm or deny. Everyone seems to be impressed with Nick but his Dad, who Nick would love to get one, "At-a-boy!" from. While in the family home, a boy comes to the front door, and not long after he starts talking to Nick, he's shot in the back. Naturally, Nora wants Nick to track down the murderer and try to impress his Dad.Edward Brophy returns, only now, as Nick's friend, Brogan. He was Morelli in the original Thin Man movie. Anne Revere, Gloria DeHaven, Donald Meek, Leon Ames, as well as many other familiar faces are in this movie. There was even a quick walk-on part by Mike Mazurki as a guy in the barber shop wolf whistling at Nora.If you're a big fan of the Thin Man series, you've got to love this one too.

Joel H (br) wrote: Macgruber isn't funny. It's just not humorous at all. I think the filmmakers got comedy confused with vulgarity. Shock humor is a lazy style of comedy in the first place, and it's even less effective when it's constantly thrown at you. The SNL skit this movie is based on wasn't that good in the first place, but this movie is even worse. I wish I wouldn't have wasted my time on it.
