ave to say it's one of those bad movies that you gotta see!. The performances were pretty over the top, too. ) This movie is pretty bad for the fact it tries too hard to be a film-noir! The bad direction and dialogue makes this movie worth watching. shut up, you! (screams Vic Brady to Loretta

They didn't spare the kiddies from the gory shit this time. Some cool fight scenes, and two badass deaths. Decent movie

Also good to note the charming performances of the two protagonists. If you always felt curiosity in the bygone era of silent cinema then you'll find something to like in this one and it's modernization of past storylines. Great throwback to the silent era with amazing character arcs

The finale takes an unexpectedly violent turn before culminating in a literal fairytale ending that is audacious and strangely magical. Devon senses this and is attracted to him, but society proves to be a dangerous obstacle to their unconventional relationship. Trent is more alive in his poor and free spirited life than any of the well-off homeowners, who find satisfaction in status, material wealth and extra-marital affairs. Duigan's film impresses most, aided very much by Mischa Barton's terrific performance, in being unafraid to portray a young girl embracing some darker thoughts and transgressing the expected bright and chirpy "all-American" expectations. Both strike up a close bond, with shared troubled pasts and physical and emotional scars. Duigan's film has a Lynchian embrace of the dark side to childhood, where troubled young girl Devon Stockard strikes up an unusual, but innocent, friendship with a seemingly uncouth young gardener who works in her snobbish gated community. A real hidden gem of 90s cinema, and surprisingly not even an obscure indie feature but one of Rank organisations last big films
