Effie Gray

A look at the scandalous love triangle between Victorian art critic John Ruskin, his teenage bride Effie Gray, and Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais.

. . After five years trapped in a loveless marriage, Effie will defy the rules of Victorian society. Lonely and frustrated Effie is drawn to pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais, and finds a friend and champion in Lady Elizabeth Eastlake. At 19, she married the prominent art historian and critic John Ruskin, but Ruskin refused to consummate their marriage. I loved this movie. A brilliant story, part of the film noir left over from the 40s, and starring two famous noir actors: Tierney and Andrews

Strung together with a series of macabre tableaux with the iconic Udo Kier as the ringmaster/MC, the film will keep you surprised from one story to the next as it brings the omnibus film fully into the current horror era. While not as twisted as Little Deaths, The Theatre Bizarre still offers plenty of bizarre stories and brutal plotlines. Along with the British film Little Deaths, The Theatre Bizarre seems to be attempting a resurrection of the genre in truly gruesome ways. Once a staple horror film format in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s, the genre has all but died out. The omnibus, portmanteau, or anthology film (whatever term you prefer) has become a rare commodity in modern horror

An entertaining blood bath that carries some flare making it aesthetically pleasing sometimes, but not really that memorable or something I'd want to watch again. Some of the cast members were unrecognizable in their roles, but the style of the film is very recognizable indeed. An incredibly impressive cast for this urban, but somewhat mythic world. A stylized action drama that feels like a Tarantino film, because his like-minded buddy Robert Rodriguez is the one who brings the graphic novel to the silver screen

From the obvious homages to films like The Wizard of Oz,101 Dalmatians, and Technicolor films in general to winks and nods to modern classics such as Saturday Night Fever, Doggie B fills the screen with brilliant colors and an amazing, quirky take on a classic tale (or is it "tail") of good versus evil. Adults will appreciate that in every frame it is obvious that writer/director Romanus Wolter is a true lover of movies. Little kids will enjoy happy, dancing canines and tweens and teens will enjoy the slightly rebellious Cassie and her burgeoning, chaste romance with Roman (nephew of the evil Gertrude). Unlike many films that claim to be "family films", Doggie B actually delivers

This 1981 sequel to the '78 movie just feels easier to watch. . . I think it's better than the original. . . . . but. . . . Listen, I'm sorry

I guess they're kind of getting better? But it's still a shocker that money was spent on this

Linda Fiorentino was the highlight of the film as the femme fatale. Predictable with lots of sex

The story wasn't bad, so the movie is definitely watchable. I liked Wes Bentley's and Rachel Nichols' performances
