Aaron J (it) wrote: Truly delightful. I really enjoyed every minute of this film. Julianne Moore is just such a fantastic actress that just shines in her performance of Cathy Whitaker a young woman in 1950's Connecticut who discovers that her husband Frank (Dennis Quaid) is gay, Dennis Quaid gives by far one of the best performances of his career and was truly denied of a Best Supporting Actor Nomination. Cathy tries to help her husband with therapy, and other methods but she in the meantime finds herself attracted to her African American Gardener Raymond (fantastically played by Dennis Haysbert). But ugly rumors emerge to try to destroy Cathy and everthing she loves. I Am a fan of Todd Haynes films and I truly have to say that this is one of my favorites of his films. The film is beautifully shot Acted and Directed. I give the film 3 1/2 out of ****.

Tim S (ag) wrote: Another clever gimmick film from William Castle, Mr. Sardonicus is very much an audience film. It's not about scaring the audiences with electric shocks or skeletons flying over their heads, but more about their participation. Of course, seeing the film today, the participation factor doesn't really exist. As for the movie itself, I wouldn't call it one of Castle's best, but it's certainly interesting and bizarre.

Jeffrey R (nl) wrote: You can't watch the film and not feel a tad bit of sorrow for the mistrial of the woman accused to have conspired on the assassination of Lincoln. The acting is great and the while the film may drag it still a very interesting piece of storytelling.

Dave H (au) wrote: No, I didn't watch this film just because the first word is the same as my wife's name. But that didn't hurt. It's kinda like a posh, pommy, B&W war-era, Enid Blyton-ish version of The Goonies. Basically a bunch of aimless boys (with the odd girl) craving adventure in post-war London, foil a gangster ring with kid tenacity. It's all a bit silly and shouty. But Alastair Sim is a riot in his brief role. And the best thing about the film is the location settings - some fascinating scenery of bombed-out mid-40s London. It's at least 50 years older than when I walked those streets, but it still makes me nostalgic as hell.
