Who gives a film a name that long without it being quirky, intelligent, meaningful, or something humorous? I get low budget horror films have their place... but at least make an effort. The Asylum isn't known for making great films but some of them are entertaining... this isn't one of those few.

Bill R (kr) wrote: It's crazy how well the British can pull off a dark comedy. This fits right into all the others. This doesn't exactly have a good mixture of balance between the thrilling and comedy parts but it works well with the story. what seemed to be a normal holiday for a couple turns into a little more than they expected and comedy ensues. given some won't find it funny but there are definite moments I lol'd.worth a watch.

Daay B (nl) wrote: I was real excited to see this movie....really excited.I took my friend to see it and kept saying how good it was going to be and how dope the preview looked..I was embarrassed for taking my friend to see it lol did not live up to my expectations

J C (de) wrote: This is a good movie about a blue collar New Yorker who gets adopted into a community of illegal aliens. It reminds me of the recent movies Chop Shop and Sugar although it is more plot driven then those two.

JH K (kr) wrote: Una pelicula muy confusa, poco agradable, terriblemente escrita y sin inters alguno.

Sobrina I (us) wrote: Why was my version a lot longer? Around 3 hours I think :)) The movie was soooooooo long. Or my version was so long. Anyway, it was the usual come from behind twisty plot.

S S (us) wrote: My only criticism is that the beginning was a bit slow and didn't really know where this film was going (I knew nothing about this film). Aside from that, this was a really simple yet touching movie.

Donnie B (gb) wrote: It's a bit uneven, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a more interesting adaptation of a classic. Its reputation as a fan favorite is earned.

Andrew B (us) wrote: From a critical standpoint, it's bad, but first let's take a look at the good. The soundtrack fits in pretty well, the atmosphere is near perfect, well casted actors that portray their book counterpart really well, great atmosphere, and death that is the way in which William Golding intended it to be(in the novel). However these are the only positives I can see in this movie. I would consider myself a critic, I judge the novels I read and the movies I watch. And I'm pretty merciful in this regard. The novel The Lord of the Flies has a darker tone, distopian society, colorful symbolism, and a well deployed plot with the theme "A man's heart is truly evil". (and now for the wolf to blow the straw house down) Now in contrast of the movie, it gets the theme right. Just one major difference, the book develops the characters into the bad guys, this movie has "the bad guys" without any development. And my gosh, the character development in this movie in short... Has none. All the characters, plot, setting just feel so rushed.. The book took place over at least a couple of months, but in this movie, a few days. Do you honestly want me to believe that the characters turn into murderers in roughly one week? Sorry to bash the characters but seriously some are pointless. Some of the major characters in the book are completely forgotten in this movie, in regards of their names, and the way the reader was supposed too see them. characters that we should at least feel entitled to remember there names for people who haven't read the book. There is also a completely pointless character in the movie who is sick and we know nothing about. The main characters feel unbelievably dull. And really that's about all there is, the movie falls very short in the characters department, and as well as the plot. It moves way to fast. Just go read the book. It's a masterpiece in contrast with this dull movie.

John P (ca) wrote: My biggest problem with this film is that by turning Paul kersey into Rambo , its solid portrayal of the plight of elderly whites in North Brooklyn got lost in the mish mash . Like every DW , the beginning was solid , Bronson was a treat , and his love interest was definite eye candy . But rubbing out a half dozen or so creeps per flick should generate enough tension and action for any crime movie . Portraying the gang leaders as white was more that ridiculous....and yes, I know the turf , having spent almost 30 years teaching special education classes in East NY , where the film takes place and where it was substantially shot . In summary , a mess , albeit sometimes an entertaining one, taking away from a story that needed to be told .

Cory T (kr) wrote: Before he launched an art-house directing career, John Sayles wrote a plethora of wiseacre, cunning horror-comedies for Roger Corman such as 'Piranha' and this gruesomely funny gem. Robert Forster is street-wise and unerringly charismatic as the detective who is investigating the string of sewer-based slayings and in a self-deprecating lack of seriousness, Forster's receding hairline is the subject of multifarious jabs. Sayles upends the old adage about flushing an alligator down the toilet and transforms it into a darkly humorous cautionary tale. For the most part, the alligator skulks through the shadows but once it is unveiled, the combination of animatronics and an alligator on a scale model, is an impressive feat. Perhaps the most pungent contribution of Sayles' screenplay is that if one were to extract the alligator scenes entirely, 'Alligator' would still be a exceedingly frolicsome satire of the New York lifestyle (Forster casually disarms a perpetrator with a makeshift "bomb" strapped to his chest as if it is a matter-of-fact occurrence). Teague rachets up the palpable suspense in many of the subterranean scenes (without a musical stinger to accompany it, the alligator can seen in the underground backdrop like a subliminal image). Henry Silva materializes midway through as a big-game hunter and his scenery-chewing hamminess is a joy to behold. Unlike the sublethal piranha, "Ramon" (as he dubbed earlier in the film) constitutes a baleful threat. Of the 'Jaws' imitators in the late 70's and early 80's, 'Alligator' is a wonderfully facetious addition that doesn't skimp on the offbeat humor or referential jokes (graffiti stating that "Harry Lime Lives" is spray-painted on a wall).

Los decorados penosos, el guion (por llamarlo asi) es medio folio, los actores horrorosos, pero aun asi tiene un tufillo que te hace seguir viendola. y todo gracias a Tim Burton...
