Jon O (ag) wrote: I find it amazing that a number of people were unhappy that a 1951 movie didn't have the same special effects as Star Wars. What, I wonder, did they expect? The movie holds up well for its age and, while hokey at times, still breaks what was new ground at the time.

J D (ca) wrote: Wow! Great musical! The story on this one is really incidental, it's the performances that you'll really want to see. And they are amazing performances. Lena Horne is stunning, Bill Robinson is great, Cab Calloway and Fats Waller are joys to watch and listen to. But it's the Nicholas Brothers who absolutely steal the show. Their dance number is truly a grand finale. I actually clapped for them when they were done, it was that amazing.

Alec B (ru) wrote: The movie comes so close to working, but Twohy can't keep the tone consistent. It doesn't help that he spends so much time developing a supernatural threat, only to abandon it in the finale for a weak resolution to the undercooked mystery behind said threat.
