(ru) wrote: It isn't particularly subtle, but The Purge: Election Year's blend of potent jolts and timely themes still add up to a nastily effective diversion. It's a better movie than the second but the first one will always be my favourite. It's an allegory painted in broad strokes, but several set-pieces are nail-biters, and more than once it captures the insanity of election campaigns with stark clarity. Election Year undoubtedly delivers what viewers want; violence, relatively decent characters and an opportunity to imagine how well they'd fare themselves in the same situation. The action is largely routine and the dialogue rarely more than functional, but DeMonaco, marshalling the franchise's best production values yet, shrewdly taps into the angry zeitgeist. For audiences who want mindless mayhem, the films never really tip over into that, and for anyone who wants to see this idea fully explored, you may leave frustrated. At least this time, it feels like the dart is on the dartboard instead of in the wall. It takes a while, but by the time the political elite gather in a church and begin washing their knives in holy water for the ritual human sacrifice, you know The Purge: Election Year has finally gotten into gear. Election Year maintains the nervy tension that made the first films entertaining, but doubles down on the political metaphors, overwhelming you with its soap-box rhetoric.VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars)
(fr) wrote: A delight to watch at least from the entertainment aspect. This is a simple flick about kids and the innocent way at which they look at problems and go about solving them. Salman took a huge leap of faith in endorsing this flick, bu i was a great decision and it bore fruit in an astonishing tale of a bunch of kids saving a dog and finding themselves in the process. The only gripe (and its a major one at that), why is Tai Tain Fish after the end credits, its an awesome song and deserved footage in the main flick.

(nl) wrote: This kind of thing worked for Spielberg and Jaws. But in this case, not so much. The director tries to make it like Jaws only with a crocodile and a large one at that. Now crocs are in real life aggressive, so not a bad animal to chose as a "monster" for this type of movie. But what doesn't work is the tension. For me, it just wasn't there, nowhere in this was I on the edge of my seat hoping for survival. Seeing Betty White was cool, her character was weird, and she played weird well. In the end Lake Placid isn't horrible but it isn't the next Jaws. 3/5

(ca) wrote: Bette Davis is very good, and Bogart to a lesser extent, in an 'honest' role. The plot is serviceable, but doesn't give as much room for the characters as it could. It almost comes across as if it had been written for the theatre, with a majority of the film being confined to just a few scenes.
(gb) wrote: I was totally confused by this movie until about half way through, and it finally makes some sense in the end. There is good horror movie gore in this one, but the story isn't very good, and the end is predictable. Overall, it's a so-so film.
