It's really funny to see how the culture in the film clashes with the culture in the 1970's and how everything has really changed. I wouldn't really reccommend it to someone I just met, but it makes a good topic to discuss US culture and how it tends to change every decade.

He is recruited by tabloid owner Nathan White (John P. Ryan) to take down various crime figures of the Los Angeles drug trade..."Death Wish 4: The Crackdown" is the fourth installment in the Death Wish film series and it was directed by J. Lee Thompson. What can you say, this is a classic 80s splatter violent B-action movie with some sort of social political agenda against drugs in America. The original idea from the first "Death Wish" has been so diluted here it has lost its flavour and the same goes for a stale and old Bronson. Bronsons Kersey makes so many hasty decisions in his hunt for the bad guys it makes no sense at all at times. And its so funny to see how every bloody action movie from the 80s used MAC 10s or mini UZIs, making "Death Wish 4: The Crackdown" no exception.

It kills any chance of sentimentality, because the whole thing is really stupid. I also found the transformation scene to be revolting and creepy. (First and only viewing - 11/12/2014)

I was half right. 2 stars go to the super scary first segment (in which a suburban housewife takes a late night trip to the store for cigarettes when a homicidal maniac is on the loose) and a half a star to an incredible special effect in the third segment (a truck emerging from the mouth of hell in a story about a lapsed priest who encounters the truck from hell.) The first has great tension that mounts and mounts until the shocking (if you've never heard the old urban legend) finale. And the third-that special effect is singlehandedly better than anything in "The Car." The second and fourth stories are brought down by hilariously outdated special effects. There's a veritable who's who of actors and actresses, past and future stars, to bring the stories to life. But overall this one was only about half good. 2 and 1/2 stars seems fair.

(it) wrote: There might be a genuinely good film hiding in here, but the filmmakers have done a great job of trying to cover it up.Chadwick Boseman makes a, sometimes, uncanny James Brown and Viola Davis turns in a, as usual, wonderful performance as his mother, but the film itself seems to pull one too many punches. This is most noticeable with a subplot involving Brown abusing his wife. It's a big deal for all of 3 minutes until it suddenly...isn't a big deal anymore. Scenes come and go with little dramatic impact and the film seems to build to nothing. At times it feels as if this was shot as an R rated film and edited to a crowd-pleasing PG-13. Something feels tampered with.
