Edward R (us) wrote: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was generally panned by critics and audiences alike, though I strongly disagreed with them. One common thing said about this fourth installment was that it lost the charm that the previous movies had. This statement could not be more incorrect. First of all, in the previous installments, the films were more carried by supporting characters than by the protagonist, Jack Sparrow. In this film, Jack Sparrow took more of a leading role than he ever had before, becoming more and more charismatic as the story progessed. It was a job pretty well done considering the loss of engrossing characters such as Will Turner, Tia Dalma, and Elizabeth Swan. Second of all, the storyline in this film was a lot easier to follow than the ones in its predecessors. The film never hit a slow point, and the action sequences kept the film coasting steadily. I personally enjoyed the part of the movie when Jack refused King George II's offer and escaped his soldiers, providing us with a clevver action sequence in result. Third and lastly, this fourth installment presented us with many new faces, including Syrena, Philip, Blackbeard, Angelica, and Scrum. The only reason I removed half of a star from my rating was because of the extremely fake looking mermaid action scene halfway through the flick. This was honestly my favorite of the four movies in the series; a truly underrated film.

David P (au) wrote: What a cool movie. I came in expecting kind of a joke of an entertaining movie considering the preview had Samuel Jackson chaining up a little white girl, but I was pleasently surprised. An all too interesting story and good acting(with the exception of Justin Timberlake) makes this a must-see in my opinion.

Alec B (nl) wrote: It's a silly geriatric fantasy . . . while I don't necessarily have a problem with that aspect, the entire movie is so cliched and predictable. It's really just a "getting the band back together" story with space instead of music.

William W (ru) wrote: Unintentionally one of the funniest films I have ever seen; definitely extremely entertaining and worth watching. A so-bad-it's-good gem of the highest order. It's as if director Winner and star Bronson--a fine actor in his best and most-remembered role ever--got wasted at some BBQ and just decided, 'Alright, let's do something so different from the first two. Let's throw caution to the wind and just go for it.'Balsam and Lauter are outstanding, and heartily show why in the 70's and 80's, they were so great to watch in supporting roles.

Wayne H (ag) wrote: I wonder if Bernie Madoff and his son ever watched this movie? It may give them some ideas for the future. The amazing thing about watching a move that is 70 years old is to see how different the world is today from the way it was back then. Changing identities was as simple as calling yourself by a new name. Visiting prisoners in the penitentiary was just a matter of walking in and asking for the convict ... and the guard goes to get him much like today's hotel bellhop. Anyhow, this is a cute movie ... but, only watch it when you're doing something else. It doesn't warrant your full attention.

Joel A (jp) wrote: A charming blend of drama & western is this simple/low key but engaging film staring Marilyn Monroe & Robert Mitchum. It's a very linear story but has great scenes here & there, it's also has quite a bit of action & moves quickly in parts.Marilyn is great with her not so typical performance more down to earth than usual. Basically the story of the two been forced to travel down the treacherous River of No Return...and how they survive it.
