The camera cuts only at the most crucial moments, staying with characters and even moving completely around them. The characters are true human beings, their relationships growing more complex with each viewing. This is a remarkable achievement, and shows even more the great tragedy of Panahi now living under house arrest due to a repressive regime.

(ru) wrote: very good acting by the 2 leads with a whole range of emotions from cheeky and naughty, to penitent. The cinematography is pretty stunning, especially towards the end. Still, one can't help feeling a little sad as to why it had to end this way.

(ru) wrote: This movie is eons behind the Umrao Jaan with Rekha as the lead. Aishhwarya's acting is inauthentic and the music and dance sequences do not work well together. The dialogue at times is unbearably cheesy and rarely poetic like the original. If you have watched the original with Rekha you will understand how this pales in comparison. A pretty face is not enough to play Umraon and the charisma that Rekha embodied is completely lacking in Ashwariya's performance. Visuals were great, though not pieced together thoughtfully.
