Nikolai H (ru) wrote: Fantastic cinematography, nice build-up of tension with a creepy atmosphere, and a terrifying climax. Throughout, I was left unsure of what was psychological and what was supernatural, and this was done in a more effective and much scarier way than The Babadook, which has more than a few similarities to this film. The balance of jump scares, frightening imagery, unsettling scenes, and psychological tension was perfect here. The biggest issue for me was I had some difficulty connecting to the main character - he seemed flat, though that characterization later worked nicely.I was neutral about the ending. It could have been stronger considering how great a film this was, but it definitely didn't disappoint me or ruin the experience for me.

The audio is horribly done though, they literally just follow Seinfeld around with a camera, but it is worth the see if you need a laugh or some inspiration to be an artist.

There is unfortunately a killer going around murdering the helpless blind citizens. And little Lucas snoops around town trying to find out the identity of the murderer. His detective work pays off when he rescues a woman from the clutches of the killer. I know it seems like I gave the entire movie away, but honestly I haven?t. All of these events I just described are just the first 45 minutes of the film. And all of them are entirely fabricated in the mind of Lucas. Turns out that Lucas is losing his eye sight, and is in need of surgery to hopefully correct it. He uses his imagination to help him cope with what is happening to him, which becomes a bit dangerous the further his condition gets. I liked Afraid of the Dark, but I didn?t love it. I thought it had a lot of interesting ideas to it, and a decent story as well. The cast was pretty nice, but not all that effective. While the movie is a psychological thriller, it doesn?t do a great job at getting inside your head. And even the ending where an infant child?s life is in danger, I never felt a sense of urgency for what was going on.But I liked it enough. It isn?t a movie that I am going to tell you to go out and rent. But if you see it playing one night on television, it might be worth at least one viewing. You might end up liking it as well.

Chuck W (de) wrote: I don't know. This movie was meant for kids. Well guess what. I'm a kid. Did I like this movie? No. I think that the story was weak and maybe a failed attempt at a James Bond for kids. The action was either lame or nonexistent and anything meant to be taken seriously wasn't. I don't know why critics have this such good reviews. At least it's not as bad as the terrible sequels.
