Eric B (fr) wrote: Considerably lighter than the typical Ken Loach fare, "The Angels' Share" is an accessible yarn more in line with director Bill Forsyth's gentle comedies. Robbie (novice actor Paul Brannigan) is a Glasgow lad in recurrent trouble with the law. He has noble ambitions despite his violent streak, and aims to reform as he and his girlfriend prepare to welcome a child. But for now, he's sentenced to a hefty chunk of community service with a small troupe of other shifty but likable youths. After their good-hearted coordinator takes them on an extracurricular tour of a distillery, Robbie is turned onto the elite world of whiskey tasting. Accepted as a knowledgeable upstart in this privileged circle, he enlists his new delinquent friends for a get-rich scheme that could lead them all to a better life. The class-struggle subtext keeps "The Angels' Share" from being a mere caper film, and the whiskey discussions are interesting. Now, if only Loach had resisted using the utterly worn-out "500 Miles" in the soundtrack. Is there anyone who can still bear to hear this song?

It stays away from the wonky, inside politics story line that shows handlers, pollsters, strategist and others and just focuses on the Romney family and the pressure a campaign brings. It also shows ho w the media can portay a person in a much different light than they really are.

Tatsuhito K (gb) wrote: If the first one was driven by the magnetic chemistry between the two leads and a good old-fashioned mystery plot, this sequel is fueled more by the action set-pieces. Downey, Jr and Law are just as likable and well-matched as they were in the predecessor, and the action sequences are quite exciting, even though it gets repetitive and seems to get louder and louder as it goes on. That's not to say it is a bad film, and you can certainly find some enjoyment in here. But the overall narrative is weak, and there isn't much to remember. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is witty and visually stylish, but nothing more.

Jared M (it) wrote: As my wife pointed out, pants name for a film. It premiered on Sky this week though. It(TM)s a bit like a modern day Hard Target...without the acting genius of Van Damme! The plot sounded interesting and must have been okay, because my wife wanted to see how it ended...I didn(TM)t think she(TM)d enjoy it at all! Dougray Scott plays the unhinged city slicker brilliantly, he makes the film with his maniacal behaviour, the rest of the cast are a bit too ~real(TM) for me...I prefer films to be an escape from the real world...not a closer look at it! Moves at quite a pace, there is a genuine feeling of nerves at certain points as they close in on our ~hero(TM).

Chris C (au) wrote: This movie starts off a bit slow, but if you give it a little time... you'll be laughing your *** off at acting, writing, and overall movie. This is a fun bad film to watch for laughs.

Benjamin F (ag) wrote: while some my feel it is impossible, the guy had 10 years to set it up, so il say plausible, but entertaining all around, excellent movie. I really wish he pulled off the bomb at the end and got taken down by Jamie Foxx after would have made a better ending for a movie that exposes the false promises the judiciary system gives to the victims of those it prosecuted.

Adam R (es) wrote: A heroic tale that is based on a real-life rescue mission. Chris Pine was splendid. (First and only viewing - 1/1/2017)
