Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead

100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror he saw a 310lb man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn't end well— with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn't far behind. FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe's personal mission to regain his health.

Benjamin I (us) wrote: The alternative plot-line, centered around a DJ who gets in over his head with the mob, was a risky move that paid off. Yes, this means the title character isn't in it as much, but this rises above the knock-off action movies that it's trying to portray.

Michael V (us) wrote: This is one of the most rudest, vulgar, disgusting movies I've ever seen that doesn't have the name Wayne's Brothers attached to it. So naturally I found it quite enjoyable and hilarious. Now I wasn't sure how this movie was going to work after having read the book. Thought that maybe they'd just make various segments based off of each chapter kind of like a sketch comedy movie. What they did instead was make an actual story and cram as much of the situations and bits of dialouge together into a workable project. And they did it quite well. But what this movie needed was just better everything. A director that knows how to handle actors and comedy. I just got a very "ok guys go be funny and I'll record it" feel. Matt Czuchry, now I'm not saying he was bad but the only one who really could have played this character is Max Tucker himself. Matt just seemed to really miss the mark. Jesse Bradford on the other had I thought was great at playing Sling Blade. I wouldn't touch him. Get a better more rounded out scriptwriter on this. (sorry Max) and this could have been up there with what Hangover was. Instead you get more of a diet coke after taste going on. If I was the director I would have spent more time telling other stories from the book to help establish the characters, and then make a two hour movie instead of what we got. If that had been the case, I probably would have given it higher. People who haven't read the book probably feel thrust in the middle of something they don't quite understand, and may not want to understand. I feel that it was a good movie, and very funny, but with a slightly different approach it could have been an awesome movie.

Steve S (ca) wrote: *** (out of four) A rather typical set up is given a fresh look mainly due to a fun and endearing performance from Judy Holliday. She is so warm and loveable that she helps you forget the somewhat routine script. Holliday plays a young woman who moves to New York to make it in the world. She rents out a billboard and becomes a sensation in the Big Apple. Peter Lawford and Jack Lemmon add fine support, but it is Holliday's movie all the way.

RJohn X (nl) wrote: These are some of Noelle's favorite movies. After watching this one, I can see why. It was fun. Wm Powell and Myrna Loy are fantastic together and the cast of underworld criminals are colorfully funny. The plot twists and winds around but ultimately is not as important as Astra's antics and the snapped wise dialogue. Good job.

Simon T (mx) wrote: Genuinely funny continuation of the Griswold family's permanently doomed determination to have a great vacation. What lifts it is John Hughes' witty script and the deadpan playing of the cast, led by Chevy Chase's psychotically cheerful Griswold. A great film to watch if you're stressed out by Christmas.
