Johnny T (nl) wrote: Clint Eastwood's film is a determined attempt to be faithful to the book's spirit, but something ineffable is lost just by turning on the camera: Nothing we see can be as amazing as what we've imagined. Always entertaining. But someone seems to have thrown away the metronome into the Spanish moss outside. "Midnight," which finally draws to a halt after two and a half hours, has a lot of acting, a bit of soul and no rhythm. Kevin Spacey gives a richly nuanced performance as the accused killer, and director Clint Eastwood makes the sometimes sordid story less sensationalistic than it might have seemed in less accomplished hands. A sputtering marathon of a movie. It starts, it stops, it sprints, it stumbles, occasionally following a straight narrative line, frequently darting off on colourful if pointless tangents, often commanding our attention yet never sparking our imagination. VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars)

Xander K (us) wrote: I want to be fair to this film because I do think it had a bit of sophistication to its humor and insight, not to mention an originality in its delivery, but it also never actually hooked me. I'm left to wonder if it wouldn't have been more effective to take a more traditional approach to the story telling instead of the dozens of brief and mostly unrelated chapters.

Harry W (kr) wrote: Cutthroat Island was a fun pirate adventure that is under-appreciated and should be more popular amongst the current generation for being a large scale pirate adventure from before Pirates of the Caribbean, not because it was the biggest box office bomb of all time.Cutthroat Island doesn't hit an epic scale in certain areas and it becomes easier to follow than Pirates of the Caribbean because it focuses on fewer characters. It's main focus is on Geena Davis and Matthew Modine on their journey to Cutthroat island and leaves the epic scale to the pirate themes instead of a massive main cast.Geena Davis gave an ok performance and is still fairly gorgeous, but her character Morgan Adams "The most swashbuckling female pirate ever to lay waste to the seven seas" has no intimidation and seems more like a lady in a strong position slipping by everyone. She had no strong female persona to her which was a shame because Morgan Adams was a character who demanded it. She was a little too sweet. Matthew Modine was a good lead and had characteristics of a serious Captain Jack Sparrow, replacing the tomfoolery for a more crook characterisation, and making William Shaw a strong character with an uncertain look in his eyes. How Modine's career isn't consistently mainstream anymore is a mystery to me.Cutthroat Island also benefits from it's strong cinematography and excellent musical score that can only be defined as Oscar-worthy. It assists to maintain a constant classical pirate feel throughout all of Cutthroat island. Cutthroat Island is especially good because you can see that Carolco pictures really put faith in it, and with the sizeable budget and Renny Harlin as a director they worked to ensure that Cutthroat Island was a fun adventure. Few people appreciated that. The only main flaws I found with Cutthroat Island was that at several times, especially in the more climactic moments, there was a tedious use of slow motion which brought no benefit to the film. Also, the screenplay wasn't that clever, and the pacing was irregular. But Cutthroat Island was fun and underrated, and wasn't deserving of being a box office bomb in anyway. More people should know of and appreciate his film, and maybe one day people will as a film misunderstood in it's time.

Private U (de) wrote: I'm quite amazed that nobody on Facebook has anything to say about this remarkable and noteworthy movie. Que Viva Mexico, with one of the weirdest creation stories in film history, is a blend of documentary and fiction that showcases the traditions of a beautiful country while also offering hope for a better future. It has multiple segments, from the prologue with its' imagery of long abandoned ruins to a bullfighting sequence that I fast forwarded through (as I detest the notion of bullfighting as "sport"). The pieces on "The Day of the Dead" and the beautiful Tehuantepec (full of beautiful jungle imagery) are absolutely fantastic, but the clear intention was to have the "Hacienda" segment as the centerpiece. A political story in two acts, it tells the story of a farm worker whose wife is abused by guests of the plantation. The worker, along with some of his friends and his brother, steals guns to try to capture her back. A long shootout ensues; let's just say this movie is no Potemkin. Yet despite the tragic losses incurred, I couldn't help but feel a tremendous rising in my stomach, the inspirational music nearly turning me commie on the spot. The movie, perhaps due to its incomplete nature, is, in my opinion, given more credit than it is due. The imagery is fantastic throughout, and Eisenstein certainly brought Mexico to life in his short time there, but I cannot resist the urge to say the movie needed more narrative. The two best sequences for me were the ones which told stories (the bullfighting sequence notwithstanding), and I think that it could have been great to see a narrative around Dia De Los Muertos a la Under The Volcano. Still, it's definitely worth seeing at least once.

Ashley H (fr) wrote: Roxie Hart is an amazing film. It is about Roxie Hart who admits to a Chicago murder. Ginger Rogers and George Montgomery give excellent performances. The screenplay is entertaining but a little slow in places. William Wellman did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the humor and romance.
Jamin M (it) wrote: I love this film. It's funny, nicely animated and well-written. It has a very original story and most of all, it's extremely cute. Bolt is just the most awesome, adorable dog ever, super dog or not, and John Travolta did a wonderful job at voicing him. Rhino and Mittens are also pretty likeable. It probably could've used a bit more humor because it could've been one of the great animated comedies like Shrek 2, but I was genuinely satisfied with the humor that did come out of it. It's not great, but it's very good and entertaining. One of my favorites from Disney. Bolt a fun, unique, heartwarming little adventure the whole family can enjoy
