Emily B (ca) wrote: My first viewing of Pitch Perfect happened in early 2013. I rarely go to see college comedies because they're not typically to my taste. But my work friends at the time convinced me that Pitch Perfect would be a delightful watch and they were right. With a focus on female camaraderie, Pitch Perfect represents unlikely but lovely female friendships. My favourite part of Pitch Perfect is the initial recruitment when the leaders are looking for a group of girls with beach ready bodies. What they end up getting is very, very different because none of the stereotypically beautiful bodied girls want to join their group. Fat Amy was especially dear to me as she defied fatphobia and was desirable throughout the film to the leader of the male a cappella group. By prefacing her name with Fat she was presenting a body positivity that transgressed beauty standards. Pitch Perfect does have its shortcomings though. The racialized characters are stereotyped. The queer, black lesbian is the butt of every we know she's gay but she won't come out joke. She is made to be 'thirsty' and socially awkward because of it. Some of the humour becomes a little repetitive and redundant as one of the women does a 'snow' angel in a pool of vomit. But, Pitch Perfect is filled with talented female actors with great chemistry and charisma. They are entertaining and light-hearted. I have watched Pitch Perfect several times since my initial viewing and every time I leave feeling silly and euphoric.

Everything about this movie is strictly by the book and had already been done before on previous films such as the "American Pie" movies and so forth. There's nothing new what I hadn't seen already. 1 out of 4 stars

Ryan H (ca) wrote: "To make sport of a physical affliction is both impolite and cruel. After all, I wouldn't dream of calling you Rat Face, or Fatty, or Big Mouth!"The infamous Hammer produced this fun and silly vampire flick. In the beginning we see two young girls in the woods enjoying their day. They both can't get over the first one's beauty. The second girl even runs out to get flowers for the first one's hair. But while she's gone the beautiful girl is killed by a vampire. Her death isn't like the death of girls in many vampire film. This one is found to be old and dead. Her face is wrinkled and dried up. Grost tells Marcus in one part of the film that there are different kinds of vampires just like there are different kinds of predators in the wild. These vampires are taking the youth from their victims instead of just sucking their blood for food. The way they do this is by kissing their victims. We know they have been taken because of a drop of blood that hangs from their lips. Our hero, Captain Kronos, is on the hunt for these vampires because they turned his mother and sister and forced him to kill them. Now they all must pay. He seems to be just as interested in killing people as he is in killing vampires. I could be wrong, but he might have killed more people than vampires. As I can remember, he kills the father, mother, and Marcus. I can't remember him killing more vampires? Then he kills the three guys at the bar who make fun of Grost for his humpback. There are also guys who follow him at a cemetery and want to kill him, so we see him disarm them. There's a possibility he killed them as well. There were 5 of them as I remember. If you think about it in those terms, the film is really silly. But it also takes its time with shots and doesn't feel the need to talk all the time. I was really impressed with the atmosphere it created. Brian Clemens has a good setup of what could be a really fun series. It's a shame it bombed at the box office, I would love to have seen more.
