(ca) wrote: An excellent film that gives a great actor his proper due. Writer/Director Scott Teems gives an interesting look into relationships and what it means to be neighbors. An engrossing dark Southern drama.
(jp) wrote: Compelling, and satisfying enough, but not all that entertaining.

(kr) wrote: Better than I thought going in. A decently executed story with some fun playful performances by both leads. It went a little too far over the top and tried to be a little to more serious than what it was worth. A straight up average movie.
(br) wrote: Linklater's debut film is stocked with incredible fascinating characters, and largely whimsical conversation. It's the type of movie that will and can only speak for those individuals who never felt truly 'at home'.
(fr) wrote: I'm a sucker for hokey. What a nice movie. I absolutely loved the chemistry between Bing Crosby and Barry Fitzgerald. It carried the entire movie. Bing Crosby's voice can warm any heart, I'm convinced. Throw in an ending that had me crying like a baby, and you've got a film worth watching over. I also loved seeing Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer :)

(it) wrote: A painfully slow movie, The First Men in the Moon is about half build up and then some decent hijinks on the moon. Harryhausen's giant moon slug has only one scene, and that's it. Not worth the price of admission, even for hardcore Harryhausen fans.

(es) wrote: Though Colin Firth tries his hardest to pull off being a French asshole, he was not made for this part. Annette Bening offers a strong performance, though a bit over the top. I'm a fan of period pieces, but this one was hard to get into with most of the characters being without redeeming qualities. Henry Thomas was about the only thing worth seeing in this - not for his mediocre performance, but because he's freakin' Eliott.
