Dave R (us) wrote: Attention all of those Marylanders who have spent any summer time down in Ocean City...this movie is a time warp for you! My sister told me about this flick Ping Pong Summer, and while it's not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, I had a blast watching it. Maybe because I've spent time in Ocean City, Md every summer of my life, and just loved seeing the images of the old inlet. Ironically in 1985 (the year this movie is set), I was just two years older then the main character is in the movie. Walking the boards, hitting the arcade, the awkwardness towards girls, having to go to dinner with my parents, meeting up with aunts and uncles just all resonates with me a ton. The director nails spot on the sights and sounds of what kind of went on in my own life. Now the acting by the kids in this flick is pretty terrible, and the stereotypes are way over done. However, if you graduated high school in the 80's and spent any time on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. This flick will be a delight.

Ruby H (fr) wrote: This was a really cute movie that I felt could have done a lot more to address all the very serious theme of prejudice, discrimination and immigration.

Toni N (au) wrote: Wow... depressing yet very intriguing. A true story about a man and his sadomasochistic behaviour.

Ryan H (br) wrote: This movie is absolutely charming. Yvan Attal has many subtle, hilarious jokes and original surprising moments. I like how they are talking about how Yvan doesn't want Charlotte to keep kissing and doing sex scenes with other actors, then turns around and has sex with her and us, as the audience, sees the nudity and movements. Throughout this film he does this, makes comments then does it in the movie itself. I loved that aspect. It goes through all the movements of a romantic comedy, but it's still surprisingly refreshing. However, I do feel like it tries to be overly serious in moments, and some scenes I couldn't tell whether they were joke fighting or if I should be nervous for their marriage. I never really felt too worried about them falling apart until the last 10 minutes. I loved the sister and brother-in-law side story. Plus the very last scene was hilarious for Charlotte. I wonder if any of this ever happened between Charlotte and Yvan in real life?

Ryan V (jp) wrote: The mother of all mockumentaries. Spinal Tap could easily be any number of 70s rock bands, struggling with waning audience interest, high levels of pretension, and a fair amount of self-delusion. Real life rockers actually admit to not enjoying this movie "because it hits too close to home".

Justin A (nl) wrote: I've seen a lot of exploitation movies, but this may (surprisingly) be the most misogynistic. I'd say it has some value in that sense, being so shocking that it should be seen to be believed, but it's so one note that it's kind of boring. It's kind of like a HG Lewis movie (mostly Color Me Blood Red), but less entertaining. It hardly feels like a movie, and more of just a series of scenes of women being brutalized and tortured for 90 minutes.

Tim S (de) wrote: The Tomb of Ligeia was the last of the Roger Corman/Vincent Price/Edgar Allen Poe films and it's arguably the most mediocre of the bunch. It feels as if there's nothing left and they keep squeezing they turnip to find something more. This one in particular seemed to drag on a lot more than it should have, despite being ninety minutes long. Price plays his usual troubled character with a past and a pretty lady by his side who wants to help him. It's the same old territory and it doesn't feel fresh in any way. It just feels tired, so it's probably a good thing that they stopped making these films when they did. I love them all, but this is one that I don't see all that often. There's not much redeeming value to it.
