(us) wrote: I had never heard of this one before...Nicholson and Beatty make a good team, but are wasted here. Apparently, it's one of the favourite films of the Coen Bros and I can see how it inspire them, but there isn't enough here to fully recommend it. For fans of the actors only!
(ag) wrote: "Gossip is fun". A college group of friends decide to start a rumour for their assignment to track it, but it soon gets out of hand and reveals secrets, drama and possibly even murder. Good. I found the film to be an overall enjoyable experience, and an excellent way to waste the afternoon away. Whilst it seemed to go abit over-the-top in the second half, the unexpected twist at the end was a great way to end the film. It's relatable in some retrospect by just being about gossip, which plays a huge part in everyone's lives at some point. It had some boring scenes, and some amazing scenes, but it didn't quite find the right balance. The plot I found to be quite original. While it would better suite episode of some teen TV show, I found the way the story also had some little sub-stories was a great way in extending time and giving the viewer some more grounds to decide whether they liked a character or not. The acting was good. James Marsden was great as the ladies man and very manipulative Derrick. Lena Headey played goody-two-shoes Cathy and her performence was much better in the second half of the film. Kate Hudson in her early years (although it seems she never ages) played rich girl Naomi, in which the rumour is started about. Joshua Jackson gets another supporting role in another teen flick (it seems like he was in all of them). The very underrated and uderused Marisa Coughlan should've been used so much more. She's great. Overall Gossip is enjoyable enough for me to recommend to watch when your bored. My rating is 3/5.

(fr) wrote: Decent acting (except from the awful kid), interesting ideas, harshly lit/shadowy cinematography, intense climax, cheesy ending. I can see how this would've been edgy and subversive in 1956. It's still dark, but is it social commentary or exploitation?
(kr) wrote: Inoffensive and emotionally resonant, though at times cheesy and bland.

(kr) wrote: Standard war documentary: good production value and illustrative of the unfathomable horrors of war.
(fr) wrote: It is a "ok" movie. Not a must see, but has some suspense. Rourke is ugly, but worthwhile to watch...
