Yet Steep succeeds similarly in what made Dogtown great -- you walk away with insight and history into the mindset of pursing your passion to the edge of life. When other great skiers looked at Chamonix, in the French Alps, and asked WHY anyone would dare ski there, the guys in Steep just said WHY NOT!

Joan Blondell is as saucy as ever but Ruby Keeler's appeal mystifies today, she's pert but a rather graceless dancer, her main claim to fame, a singer of no distinction and a gee golly kind of actress so saccharine you almost feel your teeth hurt.

I loved the layering of the three different stories and characters. This is a film about failed aspirations, lies/deceptions & betrayals. The moral of the story: don't put your work above the people you love or you will lose the only thing that really matters- your family. The young man could easily have rewritten his novel and stayed with his wife and rebuilt his family. I think this needed a stronger ending but overall very good performances and it held my interest.
