(au) wrote: depressing and a bit much on the style (though i do love gondry's imagination).
(it) wrote: Incredible young cast. Powerful storytelling. Amazing directing.
(nl) wrote: Very cool action movie, horrible Die Hard film. very one-sided, no character building, no one knows what's happening the whole time. But, action scenes are awesome and John McLean still kicks some ass.
(es) wrote: ...a striking and powerfully acted drama that perfectly illustrates a portrait of family dysfunction. It is a drama that deciphers the complexities of a family relationship in both sides, the good and the bad. This is a powerfully emotional film about empathy: tragic and sad yet beautifully sweet and authentic. Here we see Anne Hathaway in probably the best performance of her career yet. A Great Movie.
(kr) wrote: It is definitely one of the better sequels in the series. It does pretty much follow the formula you've seen countless times, but it is still fun this time around. I think it handles the family drama much better than the 5th one does which was good. The story is formulaic and it isn't a necessary sequel but it is certainly a fun one that pays tribute to the whole series. Overall it is an enjoyable sports movie that fans should find enjoyment watching.
(de) wrote: Great book, shitty adapted screenplay and direction. Paul Weitz, I could've done better than you.
(mx) wrote: The acting is beyond terrible, but the creature is pretty downright awesome. Attempts to have a plot, but said attempt is utterly thwarted by the cast's inability to act. Great modern B movie for when you want some SciFi-channel quality fare of creature feature action.
(br) wrote: A silly action sequel!
(ca) wrote: Meh, not Tarantino's best IMO. Might be cool to watch with the girlfriend, but as a single guy it's hard to get pulled into the fantasy.

(us) wrote: I hadn't seen this film since it ran in theaters, and frankly hadn't given it much thought except for the occasional mention as a Best Picture winner that nobody seemed to ever think about again. It's puzzling that this film was such a phenomenon in it's day. It's a perfectly fine, well-made film in the mode of a very dry, classy BBC production. The Vangelis theme music is extremely compelling, but is featured for all of 5-10 minutes of screen time. I can see why people would like the film, but can't for the life of me see why people LOVED it or why it won Best Picture.
(jp) wrote: We can see the embryonic ideas that would lead to the great Jurassic Park, but this attempt at combining robots and amusement is clumsy. The premise is intriguing, yes, but the execution is so sloppy that any attempt to be interested in anything other than the premise itself fails. Poor editing, poor writing, and no character development make this one of the most boringly disappointing science fiction movies ever made.
(nl) wrote: Basically, to England what Cimarron was to the old West. The Academy ate this kind of film up. A decades-spanning look at the changes of life in a particular society. However, unlike Cimarron, this doesn't display a hint of moral self-importance. It seems far more sprawling than it actually is. It feels like a 3-hour epic, but it's actually not long at all. Shorter even than Cimarron. And the characters are far more interesting. Strong performances. Somewhat melodramatic, but that's okay, because the drama is compelling. It's almost a precursor to Downton Abbey, in some ways. The film itself is fascinating as a historical relic. A moment, frozen in time. History is not so remotely distant after all.I have heard the claim that it is slightly formulaic. One grand tragic event after another, showcasing some kind of constant (character) throughout, dealing & learning to live with the ramifications. I understand the criticism, & it has merit. The compounding of tragedies gets to be much (I thought the Joey thing was completely unnecessary). But that's reductionistic. I could say that about every film that portrays an extensive time period. The alternative being to only make movies that are in real time, where everything happens in 2 hours? In regard to the war, it wasn't pro & it wasn't anti. It was honest. I appreciated that. The whole film is sort of an affront to modernism during the Depression era. A cry for hope. The only real qualm is that it was difficult to follow because of exceedingly poor video quality, & very strong accents speaking very quickly . A little too obvious foreshadowing on the Titanic.Overall, a spectacular achievement. At its core, it's a wonderful love story.*(There was a dance sequence called 'Take me Back to Yorkshire' that I believe was the origination of break-dancing)* Not sure why he's missing his mustache on the cover.
(es) wrote: I love every death scene in this movie. Very dirty and surreal and they're not over quickly. It does a good job of making you uncomfortable. And the ending is... special. That's the only word I can think of to describe it. Special, with a big, shiny gold star.
