Timothy N (us) wrote: Considering this was a christian theme movie, it was nice to hear the emphasis on the grace of God and never been about our works. However its not the whole gospel. The whole movie felt depressing. It was a continuing state of sadness and somber. I kept asking was Rich Mullins really like this? Just depressed all the time? I was impressed with the acting as they are usually a low point when it comes to christian movies. The technical level of the film was off. The camera work was shoddy at times, so much it threw my focus off the story. I get that there's an art form in camera direction but the art should enhance the story. I do have to mention this issue, Rich Mullin's hair. The hairstyle would change drastically from grungy to almost clean cut and back to grungy just in between shots, within a one day span.

Anthony B (jp) wrote: An entertaining film with a unique (if not entirely groundbreaking) perspective on the Nixon White House and Watergate.

Paige D (ca) wrote: Excellent writing and plot execution. The characters are not only believable, they are very entertaining. Tatiana Maslany gave an excellent performance.

Aron K (kr) wrote: Wasn't always sure what was going on, but it looked great. Can anyone be unhappy eating cake?

Adrian B (gb) wrote: Good acting especially Annette Benning and Naomi Watts but the story is a touch depressing

Simon D (au) wrote: Very good film which leaves plenty of discussion points. Norton and Hoffo play their typical roles but do it well. The story and direction of this is the key to it's success.

Alexander C (au) wrote: A very good movie, re-watch to understand it more, enjoyable.

Chris A (us) wrote: Stunning in its somber, solemn meditation on impermanence. Frightening score that gives the whole a palpable sense of bitterness--an inexorable marching forward of time and we underneath. Harsh. Ugly. Loved it.

One random night two visitors arrive at the diner that will change her life forever. First a man arrives on his way to the Pacific Ocean to commit suicide. He has a way of talking about life that fascinates her. Then a gangster on the run from the law arrives and he has his own opinion on life and society. A crazy night unfolds."Where did you come from?""Quite a long way."Archie Mayo, director of A Night in Casablanca, Black Legion, Angel on my Shoulder, Cash Dive, Moontide, Four Sons, and I Married a Doctor, delivers The Petrified Forest. The storyline for this picture is fairly good and reminded me of Key Largo. The script and characters are well written and the acting is well done. The cast includes Humphrey Bogart, Betty Davis, Leslie Howard, Dick Foran, and Charley Grapewin."We've got to admit nature can be beaten."I recently came across this while flicking through the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) October schedule. The storyline is interesting and honestly a little clich for the genre. However, the characters are so well executed and presented that this is a must see for fans of the classics."Perhaps they know carnage is imminent."Grade: B-

Emily W (gb) wrote: The quality of the print I saw wasn't amazing, but this was still a sweet and wistful little romance, with some very effective scenes.

David H (gb) wrote: I enjoyed this film for the visuals... though Nick Cave comes off as kind of self-congratulating and unimportant, which I imagine may drive away people wishing to know about him... the whole film reflects this idea of "transformation", the interesting way in which his lyrics come from past experiences and dream-like worlds, a small amount of history, and the amazing musical talents of (the seemingly meek) Warren Ellis (which brings satiric connotations)

Jayakrishnan R (ca) wrote: 85%Watched this on 29/4/15At least now I know from where films like The Color of Night got it's meat. Basic Instinct is a well crafted film with a great performance from actress Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas doesn't disappoint although his wrinkles make him seem more aged than what he really was. Basic Instinct captures the attention of the audience from the start itself and doesn't even have a single uninteresting moment, however, Jeanne Tripplehorn gives a stale performance. The sex scenes are top notch and even those scenes in the end hold great tension.

ELENA G (mx) wrote: bold cultish movie, has the quality of a cheap pulp novel and the actrattiveness of smart use of the color RED in the film (blood + costumes) , characters are slightly peculiar, its all about red blotches of paint or blood and odd murders! MUST SEE

James H (br) wrote: Gone baby, gone. Mrs Affleck must be very proud because this was fantastic. Ben Affleck proves he is a superb director, possibly better than he is as an actor after this thriller. This is one of the most hard hitting films I've ever seen and Ben Affleck masters building up tension with the lack of music is important scenes. Parts of this did shows small resemblance to Se7en. Casey Affleck gives his best performance to date, he is subdued and subtle about his work but if you watch closely, you'll notice how good he is. All the characters are made relevant and interesting with good back stories to all of them. I thought Morgen Freeman was just there to sell tickets but his character plays a crucial role. There is a lot of talking in this film but the screenplay is good enough to entertain you. (No spoilers) towards the end of the film there is an impossible choice that a character has to make, I know for a fact that I couldn't choose, which was incredibly clever from Ben Affleck. What a debut!

Steve K (nl) wrote: The story was a little slow, but much more realistic. The acting was great with a surprisingly great performance by Vanessa Hudgens ... who knew she could actually act???

Jeremy I (br) wrote: Family is often ugly, painful, and difficult. Rarely is it loaded with cheer, I appreciated the real aspects of this film and characters. No cookie cutter boring genre here. Weak comedy but big heart.
