I was sitting on the edge of my seat. I definitely recommend this to others.
Tom R (mx) wrote: Probably the understatement of the decade, but Michelle Rodriguez is perfectly cast in Girlfight, the debut film from Karyn Kusama (Aeon Flux, Jennifer's Body). Rodriguez is so genuine that she's played the same tough girl persona in every role after the film. It's a very well done drama that doesn't glamorize female empowerment. In fact it's one of the better movies about empowerment as it addresses that women want equality and not to be treated differently. Storywise, it feels like you've seen many variations of this movie before simply due to its inner city setting. It's not a bad setting as there is lots of struggle in the inner city, but there are many inspirational films based in this backdrop. It also has a much simpler story than a movie like Rocky or The Fighter... minor spoiler alert, but Diana (Rodriguez) doesn't fight a widely-publicized sparring match in the climax. However, this imitates life in the city. Also, she's a very strong woman, so you don't see her physically struggle; her struggle is internal and on the streets. Girlfight isn't a feel-good inspirational movie, but it's an effective drama with a strong lead and direction.

Jon S (ag) wrote: The story was good enough, but the horrible music, corny dialogue, bad casting, and perpetual Elvis undertones were too much to overcome. If this were done well, the story could've been really good. As it stands, it was just a comically bad movie with about 5-10 good parts in it.
