Jason D (ca) wrote: Oh boy, was this movie interesting! Star Crystal is about astronauts who find a crystallized rock on Mars and bring it into their ship. An alien blob hatches from it and suddenly, everyone on the ship suffocates and dies. Now, pan a few months later where the ship is docked at a docking station and a review is under going until the station becomes unstable and a small group of survivors make off with the original ship as the station blows up. Now, this group is stuck on the ship with the blob E.T. (oddly enough, resembling both of these famous aliens). It starts sucking the life out of them one by one in very quick fashion until it turns into a cat and mouse again with the alien against two survivors. THEN, the movie goes a complete 180 and the super intelligent alien starts studying humans, realizes what he's done, befriends the survivors and engages in an UNBELIEVABLY hilarious montage that includes them eating together, repairing stuff together, and playing board games (I KID YOU NOT!!!). I couldn't stop laughing, seriously. Wow, it goes from a mood piece to a terror in space piece to a damn kids movie all in one sitting. Most bizarre Alien-ripoff film I've ever seen. Hands down. Hilarious.

Ian F (ca) wrote: Really, this movie is about Irma Vep and Musidora is fabulous! Otherwise, it just comes off as a half-assed version of "Fantomas" with less compelling characters. The "comic relief" was even funny. However, the episodic element works well if you miss the first three episodes like I did!

Brian G (de) wrote: It isn't often in the movies that we get to look into the lives of older people. After all, in Hollywood all romances end up with two young lovers living happily ever after. But what happens after the primes of our lives have come and gone? This is what makes "I'll See You in My Dreams" such a wonderful movie. If you can make it through the first 15 minutes of the movie without shedding a tear, you are a stronger person than me. We look into the everyday life of Carol, who clearly is widowed and lives alone in a big house in Southern California. We see her waking up, going to bed, and doing everyday chores alone. Yet the movie doesn't want us to feel sorry for Carol. She herself doesn't seem to be phased by how she has had to live the las20 years of her life. Yet good things are in store for Carol, as we see her kindle a few budding romances, perform karaoke in a bar, and smoke medical marijuana with her similarly single lady friends and go on a binge trip to the grocery. All of these moments are depicted with humor, and without giving anything else a way, the movie tells us that life creeps up very fast, and there is no way to be certain you have always made the best decisions for yourself. To enjoy life and to live ifor the moment is what is important. Blythe Danner as usual is wonderful, and the tone of the film is subtle but touching.

Johnny T (br) wrote: Stylish, thrilling, and giddily kinetic, John Wick serves as a satisfying return to action for Keanu Reeves -- and what looks like it could be the first of a franchise. Stahelski and Leitch, both former stunt men, unsurprisingly tackle action sequences with glee... but the quieter scenes are more sophisticated, incorporating a sense of fantasy and visual splendor that almost makes the wafer-thin plot feel fresh. John Wick is a slick gangster flick simmering in a suppurating green light, featuring Reeves as a kung-fu assassin pursuing... well, the plot's not really important. What is important is the fact that Reeves is still doing this at 50. Harboring few ambitions beyond knock-your-socks-off action sequences, this crafty revenge thriller delivers with so much style - and even some wit - that the lack of substance takes longer than it should to become problematic. Funky-elegant, weirdly funny, visually intoxicating. I love this movie so much for how it's different about being more of the same old stuff we always love. John Wick, is not only a return to badass form for the actor, it's also one of the most excitingly visceral action flicks I've seen in ages. John Wick won't redefine action movies, but it perfectly exemplifies what I want from an action film when I go. Have fun with the world, shoot the action well, motivate it in a way that doesn't feel cheap.VERDICT: "High-Quality Stuff" - [Positive Reaction] This is a rating to a movie I view as very entertaining and well made, and definitely worth paying the full price at a theatre to see or own on DVD. It is not perfect, but it is definitely excellent. (Films that are rated 3.5 or 4 stars)
