Victor T (au) wrote: In the first decade of the 2000s, prequels were the big thing to do with "Star Wars", "Casino Royal" and "Batman Begins" to name some examples; so it was matter of time for Hollywood to make Dr Lecter jump into this new tendency. In 1944, Hannibal is an eight year old kid living in Lithuanias "Lecter Castle" with his parents and sister Mischa. With the Soviets and Nazi attacking each other in this World War II era, the family travels to a hunting lodge but the conflict kills Hannibals parents and now he is reasonable for Mischa but six scavengers arrive to the lodge and take the kids hostage and kill Mischa. Now in 1952, Lecter is ready to avenge her sister. Making a prequel is always a gamble, while they may be a box office success, they mostly are a huge letdown for the fans and have the potential of destroying the franchise, with little exceptions but "Hannibal Rising" is by no means one of those exceptions. The first thing that needs to be said is the acting of the new actor portraying the young version of Hannibal, French actor Gaspard Ulliel, is terrible; it's hard to believe is the same character of "Silence". But not only the new Lecter is just painful to watch but the entire cast gave horrible performances in boring characters that are even difficult to tell apart and absolutely no one is an exception. In this final installment Thomas Harris was not only the source material but also the screenwriter for this adaptation of his own work, it may sound like a good idea but Harris didn't know that an adaptation is to make the source material shorter in order to make an engaging and well done film, instead he gave audiences a slowly paced and boring story with pathetic dialog and lame scenes that's only tied to the other installments by name only; it really shows that Dino Di Laurentiis forced him to write this prequel . Director Peter Webber clearly wanted to do an artistic film but the only beautiful element in this film was the locations. But even with all of those gigantic problems, the worst of them is the story: Is so clich, stupid, not memorable at all and they transformed a mesmerizing villain to a lame "Punisher" like antihero, while this was already done in "Hannibal" it's even more obvious and worse in this prequel. I tried to find some good in this film but really there is nothing worth watching here. One of the worse prequels I ever see and it destroys the legendary character of Hannibal Lecter. There goes Hopkins, there goes your franchise.

Mark S (es) wrote: To me this film by Takeshi Kitano was just ok, some nice camerawork, but overall not alot going on here. Some scenes seemed to take forever. Brutally slow pacing. Frankly I think it has been overrated. The little boy is cute though. Thumbs down.
Alexander P (br) wrote: very average action flick, Van Damme really doesn't put any effort into this one and even though his "brother" is killed does not even show emotion

Jamin M (br) wrote: It's James Cameron's blockbuster Titanic. I'm just going to say it. I freakin' love this movie. Yeah, say what you want, but I think the film is pretty good. I honestly don't why this movie has received backlash. There's absolutely nothing so wrong with the movie that it needs such harsh criticism, at least to me. What I absolutely love about this film is how James Cameron recreated the wreck. It looked so well-done. The special effects are very good and Cameron truly makes me feel the terror of the event. The acting and casting choices were good. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio do good jobs. Billy Zane is an over-the-top but enjoyable villain. The romance is also cute and believable. The film does suffer from somewhat weak writing, mainly dealing with the fact that Jack and Rose constantly refer to each other by name. Seriously. Couldn't they say "sweetheart" or "my love" or something? And there are some corny lines. There's also the famous debate over whether or not Jack could have survived the wreck, the answer to which is yes. This film really didn't deserve its backlash. I even saw a review that said "the most dreadful piece of work I've ever seen in my entire life" Seriously? There are worse films out there than this. Yeah, it's corny. Yeah, it's clich (C)d . But I don't care. Titanic is personally one of my most favorite movies. It's visually stunning with likeable characters and a sweet love story. It has its flaws and it's not perfect, but it's pretty enjoyable

Irma A (au) wrote: What amazing performances by all the actors. I will remember this movie forever. You will hate Lester (Kevin Spacey) but you will love him too because he is just a normal human being. Ricky (Wes Bently) was a memorable character too. These two were my favorites. This movie took me through a whirlwind of emotions....hate, despair, sympathy, etc
Barb S (kr) wrote: This is one of my top 5 movies of ALL time. Excellent acting, as proven in small part by the fact that this was the first movie I ever saw Sean Penn in, and I still have a hard time believing all the subsequent characters he has played! :-D Michelle Pfeiffer, Dakota Fanning and Dianne Wiest all do a SUPERB job of acting. It was not intended to be a treatise of the entire complex issue involved in this whole arena; it's just one story presenting (beautifully and realisticly) a side of this issue that most of us would never get to see. One cannot help but see people and life differently after watching this absolutely EXCELLENT movie!!!!!
