Roberto M (au) wrote: A strangely science-fiction inquisition into the story of a young Mexican boy who becomes his degraded town's local hero after having gained his status as the best marble player around. As the local town plots and gambles huge amounts of money on Zurdo winning a marble competition against a rival town's 'just as talented' marble player, Zurdo feels the effects of being split between being pressured to win or to lose on account of the safety of his mother. A surprisingly entertaining movie with an even more innovative concept, executed in a manner that communicates a high budget and stylistic artistic direction. A dirt-ridden community becomes transformed into something special. This movie, however, does drag slightly and the second half of the film does not seem to equivicate the grace and charm of the first. Still very much worth seeing.

Rob L (es) wrote: Really good film. The story is based on acutal happenings, and having had read about the true story before, I did not like the changes they made for the film. However, you really feel for the characters and Ving Rhames is one of my favorite actors.
(nl) wrote: Buns and boobs galore in this tasteless comedy. The shocking thing is to see an actress of such high stature and commanding the highest pay for an actress, Demi Moore in the centre of all the action in a strip club strutting her stuff and bearing it nearly all. Emancipated Demi's pride and urgency to show off her boobs and buns to the world had clouded her judgement on taking on movie that is befitting of her stature. A rambunctious congressman Burt Reynolds was the only bright spark in this picture that made watching the movie bearable. One good lesson to all parents who worry that their children may not approve their jobs is to not do them.
Zachary M (ru) wrote: The biggest sin a sequel can commit, asides just being bad, is being a complete retread of the first. Home Alone 2 occupies a strange place in sequel history. Objectively, it is beat for beat the same as the first but with a change in local. Yet strangely, it has a certain charm to it that prevents me from being too hard on it. I can't tell you if it is the performances, the flavor of change in location, or what but it still holds a very special place in my heart. Objectively it makes no sense, but film is art, and art is often of ever objective. Make what you will of that.
Scott A (gb) wrote: I honestly don't know where to begin with this thing. It's about four Aliens finding their way onto Earth. Three take a ship out for a joy ride and crash, while the fourth one is ejected in mid Space by another Alien who is mad he isn't a woman. Yep. Then he falls all the way to Earth without burning up or any injuries and then just walks away. Yeah...stupid.WHile this last one is trying to find the others, those three have become famous for being Aliens and are doing tours or something, cause the female can sing and then they are suddenly dressed like Kiss. It's all super stupid. The acting is bad on all fronts. There is no humor in this. It's all lame three year old humor...much like the PG-13 Scary Movie films. And the actors as the Aliens didn't even bother to hide their thick British accents! The score manages to rip off Close Encounters, 2001 and Jaws as well!!!It should be a half star, but the space and effects are actually quite good...so...
Jonathan H (ag) wrote: Few things irritate me more in film than nonsensical motifs. In Remember My Name, there are multiple mentions of the Budapest earthquakes (mostly through television broadcasts), and the characters barely even notice. I get that the tragedy is supposed set up and inform the various tragedies we're seeing on screen, but when there's no active engagement with that material from your cast, it's a waste of time. Geraldine Chaplin, as always, is outstanding as the lead, but even she and Perkins can't save this disjointed, languid film from figuring out whether it wants to be an updated "woman's revenge/melodrama" film or a mediation on psychoanalysis. Unfortunately, it fails at doing either.
