Serge L (es) wrote: Dazzling film making yes, but the story is rather thin. We follow a 65 years old and his musings for over two hours. Plenty of extraordinary events still leaves the story minimal. Too idle rich for me. Also seems very old age oriented.

Jens T (it) wrote: Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle is the second film where we follow the clumsy Monsieur Hulot. This time the theme is technology, a world in constant change with all kind of machines that you have to adjust to. In this film Hulot is the brother-in-law of a successful business man who lives in a high-tech house with all kinds of practical and unnecessary equipment. The contrast here is the Hulot lives in the lower class part of the city and always gets into trouble with the machines. This is truly an inventive comedy with a lot of mechanics and slapstick like in Chaplin's Modern Times. Thumbs up.

Grifty G (kr) wrote: I was trying not to judge it too harshly, because 1950's sci-fi will always be severely dated. So in the end, my beef with the film is more just sub par film making than accuracy. The characters are mostly bland and interchangable (with the exception of a goofy "brooklyn" character thrown in for comic relief and giving the other astronauts someone to provide exposition to). The film is shot like one of those 1950's educational films, with boring master shots, and fairly goofy dialogue. I have a feeling even in its day it wasn't considered quality film making. I think the main reason to watch is to see what the" idea" of going to the moon was like before we actually knew how it really went down, and how close they got. That and a strange appearance by Woody Woodpecker... no joke. A kind of fictional time capsule.

Timothy said, "I wasn't that excited to go, cause I knew the movie wasn't a thriller. But now I can't imagine *not* having seen that movie."I can't imagine my parenthood without having seen this film.
