Flushed Away has quite good characters, excellent acting, great setting and it is overall a good adventure with some fine jokes, but it is still never as good as it could have been due to a typical and predictable plot, forgettable animation and it is overall a disappointing and not particularly engaging movie

Hiroshima mon amour works without twists or narrative gimmicks but with relations of dialogue and images, of present and past. Few films so happily endeavour in tying a knot for its viewer while not abandoning a clear narrative. Hiroshima mon amour has to be decoded, wants to be decoded. Neither did I really understand the relation between the young German soldier and her Japanese lover, beside the fact that they were both forbidden loves. Both of which not really help to understand the present situation. The flashbacks show us small-town life in more innocent times before the cruelty of Hiroshima, and, later on, the ordeal of a young defiled woman. Having said that, I still can't integrate the flashbacks and backstory of the French Woman. I see Hiroshima mon amour as a projection and retrojection of big-scale and small-scale disaster. But this power is so inconceivable that it's maybe only graspable when it's broken down into basic human experience. A love story so basical that it seems ridiculous to even compare it to the existence-threatening power of the atomic bomb. No idea if this was his intention, but it seemed to me like Resnais was trying to explain the inhuman catastrophy that Hiroshima was and the fear from the atomic bomb through the personal love story of a man and a woman. I can only assume what he tried to do. It's a film that has to sink in to appreciate or understand it, but I'm not even close to understand it at all I fear. Hiroshima is a chameleon - at times it reminded of Tarkovsky, at other times of Marker and sometimes I even saw glimpses of Lost in Translation. Long segments of the film offer essay film-qualities but Resnais interrupts them with classic romantic scenes and themes. The dialogue is poetic more than out-of-life and his cinematography reminds of his documentary roots. It's meditative and cryptic as Tarkovsky but way more talky. There's nothing to compare it too. Alain Resnais' style is inconceivable and unique

It would hvae been far more interesting to know what actually happened to the real Queen, rather than this ridiculous Hollywood fantasy. The only aspect of this that is redeeming is the downbeat ending

erformances are fantastic, and even though you can see the twist coming, it still manages to excite. the film is spectacularly shot, and the score is fantastic (given how iconic and re-used the music is today, modern audiences may fail to recognize its beauty)

The Identical is enthralling, oh not because it's good by any way shape or form, but maybe because it's one of the most hypnotically terrible films to come out in a while, it's almost a glorious feat of inept filmmaking that's even more baffling considering the likes of Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Seth Green, and Joe Pantoliano show their faces in this astonishing feat of stupidity; The Identical isn't just baffling based around it's script or bland direction, but also due to it's mere premise being a feat that makes this film almost worth watching to learn how to make a film 100% wrong
