(de) wrote: Cusack and Jane add appeal to characters that would otherwise have been fairly bland (as is pretty much everything else about the movie). Ventoura and Garvey are OK too, but aren't exactly tested. The urban-set opening car chase would have been tricky on a low budget, but the open road bits could have been a lot more interesting. Trenchard-Smith has done far better than this (though, sadly, not recently), but among the cliches, undercooked plot and excessive dialogue, it has its moments. Why does the daughter have an American accent? That doesn't even make sense.

The cast is solid for the most part, with the returning members shining, especially Malkovich as the deranged Marvin while Mary-Louise Parker is delightful as Frank's girlfriend just wanting a little excitement. However, Catherine Zeta Jones seems wasted while Anthony Hopkins is surprisingly underwhelming, though Byung-hun Lee makes a remarkable American movie debut. Behind the camera, director Dean Parisot keeps the action moving, though the Hoeber's script is too complicated for it's own good, when a simpler story would have helped (one too many double-crosses). Overall, a fun sequel worth viewing, especially for fans of the original, though not quite as good.

(fr) wrote: OK-ish movie. Good action. A wee bit boring, to a degree. lol
(au) wrote: A cheesy but fun sci-fi comedy with surprisingly good special effects work for a low budget film this old. A nod or two to Star Wars and some fun set and costume design. Dorothy Stratten looks great, but there's not a great deal of plot going on.
